Empower’s Personal Wealth segment (“EPW”) is a rapidly growing business, leveraging Empower’s financial planning expertise and technology to deliver advice, professionally managed accounts, as well as financial wellness and planning across Empower’s Workplace and Wealth Management business.

As a Director of Strategy & Business Development you are part of a small but impactful team that partners directly with the EPW leadership team to drive long-term strategic decisions and evaluate new business opportunities. In this role, you will develop informed positions on questions that shape the future of EPW and generate long-term value for our business. You will work on a wide range of projects, collaborate cross-functionally and connect strategy to execution to help implement our recommendations.

This position is not a sales leadership role, or focused on existing product management, it is all about having a vision to see "what's next" in financial services. The ideal candidate has a background in synthesizing competitive market data, with expertise in a strategy consulting role within the financial services industry.

What You Will Do

Evaluate strategic business, product and partnership opportunities to help EPW decide where to deploy its resources to maximize long-term valueCollaborate with EPW leadership team to drive strategic decisions by clearly defining a challenge or opportunity, develop actionable solutions and understand tradeoffsEvaluate new business expansion opportunities from start to end, including building the initial hypothesis, testing it, refining the proposed solution(s) and sourcing potential partnersManage external partner relationships including initial identification, evaluation, negotiations and onboarding of new partnersDevelop a deep understanding of the competitive landscape and industry offerings to identify upcoming challenges or white space opportunities for EPWSupport the strategy development process during the annual budget season and when developing the multi-year strategic business plan for EPWBuild financial models, simulations, and business cases to identify patterns and inform data-driven decision-makingSolve hard, ambiguous questions by thinking creatively and collaborating cross-functionally with data analytics, finance, product, marketing, advisory and other teams

What You Will Bring

10+ years of experience in leading strategic projects and evaluating new business opportunities in a fast-paced growth environmentProfessional experience in strategy consulting, banking, corporate strategy, or a similar role in high growth tech companiesIn-depth financial services industry knowledge, including emerging trends, competitors, and market dynamicsExperience in the wealth management and/or fintech industry with demonstrable knowledge of industry trends and best practicesOutstanding communication skills, adept at influencing and persuading stakeholders through effective and impactful communicationAnalytical thinker with proven hypothesis-driven approach to ambiguous questions, bringing structure to quantitative and qualitative insightsPassionate about tackling complex and impactful business challenges with a high level of independence and attention to detailExpert in creating compelling presentations that tell a story as much as persuade with data analysisAbility to quickly switch context between 10k feet strategic level and detailed execution-oriented workBachelor’s degree

Base Salary Range

$123,000.00 - $178,350.00

The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
