We are seeking an experienced Design Engineering Director to join our Outdoor Performance Product team. The Outdoor Performance strategic priorities are to be consumer-first focused, lead with power brands, and invest inwards. We will build the Outdoor Performance business by creating focus and power with the consumer. The product team will create product innovation and deliver scale through shared product design and development.
In this role, you will direct the coordination and overall integration of technical activities in engineering projects from ideation through production. This position manages and supervises engineers on the research and development team who are responsible for the technical design, testing, and analysis of all products across the Riflescope, Binoculars, Small firearm aiming, & Range Finders categories. This position works cross-functionally with Operations, Marketing, Sales, and Technology to ensure the products have industry-leading innovation, quality, and on-time delivery.
This position reports to the VP, Head of Product, and is based out of our Bozeman, Montana office.
As the Director of Design Engineering, you will be expected to:
Engineering, Design, Development
Work closely with business unit leadership to define long term product roadmaps for our suite of Optics products across the Bushnell, Simmons, and Tasco brands.
Define and develop product requirements & specifications in alignment with product briefs in collaboration with business unit leadership.
Manage the full product creation lifecycle from concept to prototyping to final product launch for Optics and Optics related devices and platforms across all brands.
Lead CAD design and development of product concept prototypes.
Collaborate with and lead Product Development Engineers to create product system requirements, develop product solutions, and create verification and validation procedures.
Work hand and hand with the Marketing Product Team in the discovery, concept development, and testing of new product technologies and solutions.
Seek out applicable technologies from adjacent industries, with focus on the discovery and development of advanced "highly differentiated" new products.
Interface with Product Engineers to vet product performance requirements, verification test procedures, manufacturing process technologies, etc.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (merchandising, marketing, operations, supply chain) across Revelyst Outoor to deliver on time, on cost, and on brief.
Ensure Optics products meet all regulatory and compliance requirements and drive any and all required certification of those products with the appropriate regulatory entities
Actively contribute to delivering profitable projects, monitoring financial performance, resourcing, and expenditure.
Continually maintain and develop the highest standards of technical quality, staying ahead of industry advancements and best practices.
Team Leadership
Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of engineers and contractors to develop IoT devices including electronics hardware, software, and cloud services integrated solutions
Foster a culture of innovation, customer-centricity and continuous improvement
Provide exceptional leadership for project teams and the broader group, driving successful outcomes and ensuring project objectives are achieved.
Mentor and coach colleagues, fostering a culture of innovation, creativity, and meaningful delegation within the team.
Work closely with merchandising, sourcing, and other team members as part of a dedicated and skilled group, collaborating to deliver world-class solutions.
Oversee the production of coordinated detailed design drawings, specifications, schedules, and other project deliverables to ensure the highest quality standards.
Direct multiple projects across the group, ensuring the successful implementation of engineering solutions while ensuring financial success.
You have:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
10+ years of product development experience, with at least 3 years focused on optics development and/or related fields such as ballistics and firearms, and related processes.
Proven track record of successfully delivering consumer products from concept to market.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with CAD software.
Experience related to military service, hunting, competitive shooting, and reloading.
Strong organizational skills with sharp attention to detail.
Deep technical knowledge of IoT technologies, platforms, standards, and emerging trends.
Strong leadership skills with ability to inspire teams and drive strategic initiatives.
Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management abilities.
You might have:
Electrical Engineering experience.
5+ years experience with optical or parallel product category.
Experience in developing consumer products for the outdoor retail industry.
