PRIMARY FUNCTION
In accordance with the elements of competence established for Boys & Girls Clubs resource development professionals, the Director of Development works with the Chief Executive Officer to plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progress against those strategies. This person is responsible for:
Donor Cultivation & Solicitation: Planning and implementing strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, corporate, foundation and major donors. Fundraising Events: Planning and implementing organization wide fundraising events, guided by the CEO and the board; identify and create opportunities to build public awareness of Club programs, services and activities. Marketing: Planning and implementing all of the organization’s marketing strategies, communications and public relations activities, both internal and external.Data Management: Planning and implementing the organization’s resource development related data collection activities, including direct data entry into a data system.Strategic Goals: Planning and implementing resource development activities that generate income for the organization in alignment with current and future strategic goals; contribute to the development of long-term goals for the organization
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBLILTES
Donor Cultivation & SolicitationArticulately communicates to donors about the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dumplin Valley, including mission, programs, services and special initiatives. Plan and execute steps for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for all gift types, including major gift development. Prepares and presents proposals for corporate and foundation support of the Club, using current cultivation and solicitation materials.Provides support for various fundraising projects/initiatives assigned by executive leadership, such as the annual fund campaign, major gifts and planned giving.Fundraising EventsWork with the CEO and senior leadership to establish, report on, and meet regular benchmarks for events.
Oversees planning of logistics for special events, including obtaining sponsorships and solicitation of gifts, securing vendors and preparing related printed materials and publications. Ensure effective event administration, making sure all events, related logistics and support activities are carried out as schedule; coordinate staff to support the event. MarketingEnsure design and development of public relations documents for use in the promotion of fund raising, and education of the public, including press releases. Ensure the development and distribution of marketing documents. Designs and implements direct mail programs.Increase visibility of Club development activities and maintain good public relations.Coordinate media and social media interest with target audience and complete appropriate responses to media requirements. Produce the organization’s annual report, working in collaboration with members of senior leadership.
Data ManagementEnter data/donations properly in the donor management system. Design and produce reports related to donor management. Manage administrative and operational systems to: track fundraising income, compile income status reports and variance reports; and recognize contributions with acknowledgment letters and special recognition events.Generate accurate, consistent and timely acknowledgement letters and tax receipts, issue annual tax statements to donors.Ensure the evaluation of development activities through data collection and identify opportunities to improve results.Ensure a productive working environment, providing staff support to Club management on
fundraising issues. Attend various committee meetings, compile mailings, write follow-up letters and track and manage donor data.

QualificationsSKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferredAt least 3-5 years of fundraising experience and proven track record for securing gifts/donors A minimum of three years work experience in non-profit agency operations, specifically in the fund-raising field, sales/marketing or equivalent experience.Knowledge of the Boys and Girls Clubs mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures and of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations, youth development services preferred Considerable knowledge of fund-raising techniques, and sources of funding for non-profit agencies and organizations.Ability to organize and coordinate fund-raising operations.Strong oral and written communication skills, both verbal and written.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.Knowledge of accessing and managing donor data base.
