Occupational Summary

 

Plan, coordinate, and participate in programs that enable Sanford students to explore internship opportunities through practical work experience; serve as expert in employer relations field to include administering employer outreach and relationship management and providing events management, and serve as resource in area of expertise.

 

Work Performed:

Administer employer outreach and relationship management (50%) Lead departmental employer relations strategy and provide vision for employer relations. Research, develop, and foster prospective and existing relationships with employers. Strengthen partnerships with organizations and provide direct and indirect channels for recruitment and engagement opportunities with students. Assess needs, identify targets, and evaluate new opportunities relevant to public policy. Research and identify hiring/recruiting trends and best practices. Collaborate with Duke alumni and faculty in policy careers to build relationships for job and internship possibilities. Maintain and update employer relations data. Steward relationships with partner employers to safeguard customer satisfaction and accurate data for career advisors. Provide information to career advisors regarding employment trends and changes in the field. Manage employer relations budget.

 

Provide events management (20%) Manage in-person and virtual information sessions, panels, and site visits with employers. Oversee Graduate Assistant(s) (GA’s) and events student employee team efforts to ensure event facilities, staffing, logistics, and A/V needs are arranged. Promote events to students utilizing relevant marketing strategies, in collaboration with operations coordinator. Create and maintain relevant marketing information for employers considering recruiting with Sanford, in collaboration with operations coordinator. Collaborate with other career centers for joint career fairs and activities. Advise Sanford student organizations as they plan employer-related activities and events.

 

Deliver employer relations data management and reporting (10%) Create and maintain system to request and track new employer business development using a customer relationship management tool. Maintain employment records for reporting to professional associations. Develop assessment tools to measure success (jobs posted, students hired). Establish policies and procedures in compliance with fair and equitable recruiting and selection standards. Provide regular employer updates to career services team.

 

Build and maintain professional public policy network (10%) Partner to build connections and networks with relevant organizations and potential new employers, using Sanford alumni connections and staff and faculty connections, in collaboration with relevant Sanford partners. Build Sanford networks within relevant organizations that employ substantial numbers of Sanford and Duke alumni, in collaboration with relevant Sanford partners. Attend conferences and networking events that increase the visibility of Sanford and its students to potential employers. Maintain membership/relationships with appropriate professional organizations (e.g., APSIA, NASPAA, NCACE, NCCDA, etc.) and collaborate on events when appropriate.

 

Assist with career advising (5%) Provide advisors with on-demand services during final spring months to address the needs of students still seeking employment and internships. Collaborate with career advisors to create and execute the best strategy to help with last minute internship needs.

EDUCATION/TRAINING: Work generally requires communication, analytical, and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a master’s degree.

 

EXPERIENCE: Work requires 1 year of employer relations experience in college or university career services or direct recruitment experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

A minimum of 2 years of employer relations/recruitment or directly related experience. Knowledge of public policy programs. Excellent project management and event planning and implementation skills. Excellent recruitment, communications (oral and written) and presentation (face-to-face and virtual) skills. Strong organizational program development, sales, and persuasion skills. Creative thinking/reasoning abilities. Demonstrated competency to oversee multiple tasks with attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with a broad range of internal and external constituents including students, employers, alumni, faculty, and staff. Proficiency in working with technology-based services. Proven ability to work independently while functioning as a team member. Strong ability with time management, event organization, and managing multiple projects and details. Cross-cultural communications skills and sensitivity. Customer service orientation.
