Position Description
The Director of Engineering will oversee the operation and maintenance of all facilities and grounds of assigned Northside Hospital Campus(s). The Director has overall responsibility for the planning, administration, control, and quality management of department activities. The Director will ensure the reliable operation of all systems and equipment, provide technical assistance to other departments, and assist in construction support related activities such as but not limited to remodeling, renovations, master planning, and others as needed.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational
Assumes responsibility for, through assigned department manager(s) or coordinator(s), the effective management of Facilities Services. Evaluates daily activities and makes operational changes as necessary to improve service levels.
Identifies the needs of those departments and individuals (hospital and Medical Staff) served by the department of Facilities Services and develops departmental goals and objectives and policies and procedures which meet those needs and which support and promote the accomplishment of Division and Hospital goals and the enhancement of services.
May develop and provide in‑put into hospital‑wide policies or departmental policies that impact across division lines. Actively participates on hospital committees which address operational issues.
Assumes division wide and hospital‑wide responsibilities for projects and issues as assigned by the Sr. Director of Facilities Management. Actively participates on hospital committees.
May negotiate agreements with provider and/or vendor groups for certain products and services.
Position Requirements
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
1. Seven (7) years’ experience in facilities maintenance and plant operation, of which four (4) years must be in a supervisory capacity.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Business, Healthcare, Administration, Engineering or related field. Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM). Demonstrated ability in general areas of structural, mechanical, electrical, electronic, and minor hospital systems and equipment repair. Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and understand minor construction estimating and material usage. Knowledge of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and NFPA 99 Healthcare Code. Familiar with JCAHO Statement of Conditions and Environment of Care Standards
