Position Description: The Director of Engineering supervises the operation, maintenance, and repair of hotel equipment, tools, and facilities. This includes essential functions to ensure proper operations and maintenance of Scrub Island Resort, Spa and Marina. The Director of Engineering is responsible for supporting the company goals of guest satisfaction, cost control, profitability and overseeing the Preventative Maintenance program ensuring that all guest units/suites, public space meet standards, including the entire infrastructure of the island. The Director of Engineering also ensures compliance with all requirements from the Fire Department and maintains up to date Local governing agents’ certifications.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High school diploma or GED equivalent and Collage Degree and technical training preferred.Progressive experience in hotel and island operations minimum of 5 years’ experience preferred.Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other employees.Read, write and speak English fluently.Enjoy working with people and possess a friendly and outgoing personality.Excellent communication and listening skills, as well as basic computer knowledge.Experience and knowledge of Reverse Osmosis Plants, Generator, Chillers, AC units, electrical and transformers.Successful track history in running preventative Maintenance programs and facilities.Must have a valid driver’s licenseCertification in the maintenance field preferredPhysical Requirement:
Ability to speak and hear and work with several different cultures.Close and distance visionIdentify and distinguish colors.Frequent walking with some standing at times.Will walk for long periods of time, possibly extended distances.Frequently lift carries up to 25 lbs.Occasionally lifts/carries up to 50 lbs.Continual use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manualdexterity and fine motor skills.
Able to reach hands and arms in any direction and kneel and stoop repeatedly.Able to spend long periods of time on your feet, sitting or working in close quarters.Able to work early mornings and late nights as needed.Mental Requirements:

Duties:
Ensure the smooth daily operation and guest appeal of the hotel.Determines the goals of the company or organization.Devises plans for each phase of the project.Identifies and procures the resources needed.Recruits engineering associates, scheduling and payroll compilationDirect the maintenance associates on small and large repairs, such as patching drywall, fixing faulty wiring, electrical, plumbing, use of tools all the way down to the unclogging drains and lift stations.Performs quality control checks, ensuring the safety and effectiveness or reliability of the system or product.Evaluates the costs within a specific time frame.Supervises the installation of the equipment or the manufacturing process of a product.Negotiates with team members to generate ideas and clarify specifications.Delegates tasks as necessary to engineering team.Resolves disputes between team members.Design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety and reliability.Discuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, subcontractors, suppliers and customers.Manage projects using engineering principles and techniques.Plan and design new production processes.Recommend modifications following prototype test results.Using research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modeling and computer-aided design.Considering the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints.Troubleshooting, monitoring and commissioning plants and systems.Ensure the Material Safety Data (MSD) sheets are current and easily availableEstablish ongoing training for all departments, especially Housekeeping, Front Desk, Loss Prevention, Maintenance and Kitchen to maintain basic upkeep of their departments and equipment.Adhere to budgeted or re-forecasted expense allotments, using proper procedures for all purchases and ensure all necessary items stocked.Coordinate all inspections of the fire safety systems, including extinguishers, smoke alarms, etc., to maintain proper safety standards.Ensure that a Preventive Maintenance Program is implemented and administered.Document and distribute an Emergency Procedures Plan among all Management Staff and in case of an emergency, conduct and execute the Plan with the Supervision of the General Manager of the hotel.Manage energy expenses and continually work towards energy conservation.Any other duties assigned by the manager or supervisor.Mainsail is an Equal Opportunity Employer and it does not discriminate on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, age, sex or gender (including pregnancy, childbirth and pregnancy-related conditions), gender identity expression (including transgender status), sexual orientation, marital status, parental status, military service and veteran status, political affiliation, physical or mental disability, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state or local laws and ordinances.
