DESCRIPTION
We are currently seeking a Director of Engineering and Business Development who will be responsible for leading the strategy for growth and success in the development and delivery of A/E/CM services for Institutional clients with a focus on the New York and Northeast market. This role is part of the Michael Baker leadership team and leads business development strategy for the transportation and infrastructure markets (Highway, Traffic Water, and Bridge/Structural) for planning, design and construction management/inspection services.
This role serves as part of a dynamic leadership team responsible for expanding Michael Baker International’s practices including federal, state, county, municipal, and private clients. The individual in this role will develop and drive the implementation of the strategic business development plans for the New York and northeast market, including identifying and pursuing new market opportunities as well as expanding existing client and industry partner relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will facilitate the ongoing growth of Michael Baker’s New York transportation and infrastructure business, by performing business development, client outreach, and providing direction on major transportation and infrastructure pursuits and industry expertise to our clients. Oversee business growth and client relations across various disciplines. Expand existing client services as well as develop new clients to diversify our services, drive business development strategies with local and regional BD teams to broaden the capabilities of the office/region and grow the business. Actively engage in business development activities with project managers, subject matter experts, market and practice leads, operations, and regions. Assist and/or lead the strategy and messaging for targeted pursuits, including all elements to craft winning proposals. Assist with the development of gap analyses, competitive assessments, discriminators and key win themes, and overall win strategy/value proposition. Participate in the development and execution of capture plans with the objective of increasing the win probability of targeted pursuits. Participate in Go/No-Go evaluations. Understand company and partner capabilities and limitations; assemble strategic teams and partnerships when desired; learn from industry leaders and review publications. Assist with external teaming arrangements and partnerships to include identifying, selecting, and recruiting consultant partners and subconsultants. Attend and participate in professional organization and society meetings; where you will work to develop and maintain relationships with key clients, teaming partners, and recruitment. Direct departments and teams in various business development and operations and/or project related functions. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments and teams. Serve as principal-in-charge, project executive, project director or subject matter expert on strategic pursuits and projects, as required. Accountable for metrics including, but not limited to: Net New Work Added and Backlog Revenue and Contribution Profit Mentor and motivate staff on client relations, performance feedback, technical guidance, and financial management. Directly assist and collaborate with the Office Executive to lead office: initiatives, culture, key performance indicators and growth strategies.PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
B.S. degree in Civil Engineering is required. An advanced degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structures is a plus! A minimum 25+ years of related experience including project management experience is required. A New York Professional Engineering (PE) License The ideal candidate will have established client and colleague relationships at the executive level at NYC and NYS DOT agencies, and lead proposal efforts. An ability to apply technical expertise in the development of major transportation proposals and pursuits. Strong written and verbal skills, with exceptional presentation and leadership skills. Experience with strategic planning for long term business plans, including goal measurement to achieve engagement, capture planning and leadership of strategic pursuits. Knowledge of financial aspects of the engineering business, demonstrated new work added and measured goals to achieve. A solid understanding of state capital funding and operating budgets, the funding process and how they are allocated. Experience with both design/bid/build and design/build, leading client engagement meetings, strategy projects and industry associations. Self-motivated with solid business experience and understanding of cross selling and multi model transportation including highway, bridges, aviation, rail, and transit. The approximate compensation range for this position is $200,000 to $270,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
