Job Purpose: GSK is seeking a Director of Engineering for Hyperautomation Platforms within GP&T, reporting to the Head of Enterprise Software Engineering and Automation. This role will manage the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) platform and lay the groundwork for an expanding set of hyperautomation capabilities, including Low Code, Process Mining, and integrating conversational AI and AIML concepts into automation, which may become part of the estate over time. Why is this job critical? This senior role reports to the Head of Enterprise Software Engineering and Automation and is responsible for the strategic oversight and operational excellence of hyperautomation platforms at GSK. The Director of Engineering for Hyperautomation Platforms will ensure the seamless operation of business-critical applications running on the RPA platform, with a focus on potential expansion to include additional hyperautomation capabilities. This role will lead the hyperautomation community alongside a delivery counterpart, running a Center of Excellence (CoE) with another director. This position will focus on platform enablement and automation operations, while the counterpart will concentrate on delivery and running a delivery factory. The director will collaborate closely with executive stakeholders across Digital Technology, Innovation, and Business units to ensure hyperautomation solutions meeting SLAs required for meeting business objectives. The director will maintain a comprehensive knowledge base and repository for hyperautomation assets, ensuring reusability and alignment with organizational standards. This role has a strong emphasis on Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of hyperautomation platforms. The Director of Engineering for Hyperautomation will own the hyperautomation toolchain at GSK, ensuring its effective deployment and continuous improvement. They will expand the company’s use of hyperautomation as a strategic enabler of business goals, driving global benefits while supporting local innovation initiatives. This role will also be pivotal in integrating conversational AI and AIML concepts into the hyperautomation framework, enhancing the capabilities and reach of automation solutions across the organization. Responsibilities: Platform Management: Oversee the RPA platform and prepare for the integration of additional hyperautomation capabilities such as Conversational AI, Low Code and Process Mining. Operational Excellence: Ensure the seamless and reliable operation of business-critical applications through a strong emphasis on Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles. Service Management: Ensure GSK’s IT Service Management (ITSM) principles are adhered to in day-to-day operations towards enhancing service delivery. This will reduce manual intervention, minimize errors, and ensure compliance with established policies and standards. Community Leadership: Lead the hyperautomation community alongside a delivery counterpart, co-managing the Center of Excellence (CoE) focused on platform enablement and automation operations. Strategic Collaboration: Partner with executive stakeholders across Digital Technology, Innovation, and Business units to align hyperautomation initiatives with business objectives. Toolchain Ownership: Manage and continually improve the hyperautomation toolchain, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the organization. Vendor Management: Oversee the third-party service partner responsible for day-to-day operations, ensuring contractual obligations are met and value is delivered. Knowledge Management: Maintain a comprehensive knowledge base and repository for hyperautomation assets, promoting reusability and adherence to organizational standards. Governance and Compliance: Ensure all automation solutions comply with internal policies and external regulations, including but not limited to SOX and GxP automations, maintaining a robust governance framework. Innovation Enablement: Drive global benefits from hyperautomation while supporting local innovation initiatives, expanding the company’s use of hyperautomation as a strategic enabler. Performance Metrics: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and reliability of hyperautomation platforms. Stakeholder Communication: Provide regular updates and insights to the Head of Enterprise Architecture and other senior leaders on the status, challenges, and opportunities within the hyperautomation platforms landscape. Qualifications: Education and Experience: Total 18+ years of experience with at least 8-10 years of experience in operating platforms, focusing on reliability, scalability, and performance. More than 3 years of experience in hyperautomation solutions, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA). Proven track record in developing and executing hyperautomation strategies. Strong technical background with hyperautomation technologies, including Conversational AI, Low Code platforms, and Process Mining tools. Experience in vendor management, ensuring value delivery from third-party service providers. Excellent communication skills for articulating technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for identifying and mitigating risks. Ability to collaborate with IT functions such as security, compliance, and infrastructure, as well as with global business stakeholders. Excellent senior stakeholder management, providing regular updates and insights on hyperautomation initiatives. Preferred Experience: Understanding of regulations impacting the Pharma industry (e.g., GxP, GDPR / Schrems, Sarbanes-Oxley). Experience with automation technologies in R&D, Vaccine, manufacturing, and supply chain environments. Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in hyperautomation and RPA. Knowledge of cloud-based automation solutions. Strong understanding of SRE principles for ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance. Outstanding communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to various audiences, including board-level stakeholders.
