POSITION PURPOSE
The Director of Facilities Management is responsible for supporting operations efforts for our portfolio of communities across multiple states. This role will oversee strategic planning, management, and performance of facility management operations while providing support and oversight through influence-driven leadership of the responsibilities and work of the Directors of Maintenance and the Directors of Environmental Services at each community. At a higher level, the Director of Facilities Management will also be a partner to each community’s Executive Director in maintaining the highest standards of upkeep. This role will be responsible for providing training, education, and coaching for the Maintenance and Environmental Services departments to ensure adherence to regulatory standards while aiming to enhance the overall resident experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Overall, the Director of Facilities Management responsibilities will be focused on the following:
Leadership & Strategic Oversight:
Provide leadership, guidance, and strategic direction (often remotely and in-person as required) to facility management teams (Maintenance and Environmental Services) across all assisted living locations. Develop and implement long-term strategies for facility maintenance, upgrades, and operational excellence. Assist with interviewing and selecting candidates for Directors of Maintenance and Directors of Environmental Services.Operational Excellence:
Oversee the strategic operations of facility management, ensuring each community is aligned and all are maintained to the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and functionality. This includes building maintenance, janitorial services, landscaping, and overall infrastructure management. Work with executive leadership to develop and execute initiatives to meet Grand Living goals and standards, as well as state and national regulatory requirements. Evaluate and assist with all development and repair projects as needed.Team Development & Training:
Coach, mentor, and develop facility management teams across the organization. Ensure staff are well-trained on equipment, safety procedures, and company standards. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.Capital Planning & Projects:
Assist with capital planning for facilities, including renovations, repairs, upgrades, and new construction projects. Work with Executive Directors, Operations Leaders, Grand Living Management Leaders, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to company standards.Vendor & Contract Management:
Oversee vendor relationships and contracts for facility services, including maintenance, security, waste management, and landscaping. Negotiate contracts, ensure performance standards are met, and manage service level agreements (SLAs).Facility Inspections & Audits:
Regularly visit and inspect facilities and apartments in coordination with Directors of Maintenance to ensure operational standards are being met. Conduct audits and quality control checks to identify areas for improvement or investment. Address any issues related to facility management promptly. Review safety and security measures to make sure all communities are operating under best practices.Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
Ensure all facilities comply with local, state, and federal regulations regarding building codes, health and safety standards, and other industry-specific requirements. Lead the facilities through inspections, audits, and safety assessments.Crisis Management & Emergency Response:
Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans for all facilities, including fire safety, disaster response, and facility evacuation procedures. Oversee the timely and effective response to emergency situations.Sustainability & Environmental Initiatives:
Promote and implement sustainability programs that reduce energy consumption, improve waste management, and incorporate green building practices across all locations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in facility management, business administration or a related field, preferred. Seven (7) or more years of experience with facility management in assisted living, healthcare, or senior care industry. Three (3) or more years of experience in leadership roles. Deep understanding of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.), maintenance procedures, and regulatory compliance. Strong financial acumen with experience managing projects, contracts, and capital projects. Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and locations. Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize and oversee multiple large-scale projects simultaneously. Knowledge of safety, environmental, and health regulations as they pertain to the senior care and healthcare industries. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage crises effectively. Willingness to travel frequently to various facility locations.Other:
Certification in Facility Management (e.g., Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or equivalent) preferred. Project management certification (e.g., PMP) preferred. Familiarity with senior living-specific building requirements, regulations, and best practices. Fully remote based in Florida or Texas. Ability to travel, occasionally extensively, including expended periods of driving and overnight stays
