UW faculty and staff also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities and unique resources in an environment noted for diversity, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits, and natural beauty. **The Libraries has an outstanding opportunity for a Director of Facilities Operations.** Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Research & Learning Services Planning and Infrastructure, and in collaboration with the Dean, Libraries Cabinet and Directors, this position is responsible for the leadership, development, and implementation of operations and general strategy of the facility operation of UW Libraries. This comprehensive role includes oversight of facilities at Seattle campus libraries: Suzzallo and Allen, seven branch libraries, Health Sciences, the Odegaard Undergraduate Library and the Tateuchi East Asia Library. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Leadership & supervision + Supervises day-to-day work activities by delegating authority, assigning and prioritizing activities and monitoring operating standards. + Supervises Libraries Facilities staff. + Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, evaluation, progressive discipline and termination of all facilities staff in collaboration with administration and human resources. + Leads Libraries Facilities interaction for the Libraries with UW Facilities, Environmental Health and Safety, and University Police among other UW units. + Serves as a member of the Seattle Campus Operations Group and Research & Learning Services (RLS) Leadership Team in order to provide cross-portfolio services for all Seattle campus units.Facilities administration, management & planning + Leads daily collaborations with Libraries Facilities Manager to oversee the efficient and effective management of Libraries facilities to include Libraries renovations, improvements and maintenance projects, as well as daily maintenance. + Collaborates with portfolio directors/Associate Deans to assess upcoming projects and activities. + Creates, executes and analyzes departmental space utilization and allocation as needed. Communicates status of facilities projects and other impacts in the libraries to Senior Director. + Oversees and supports the planning, staging and execution necessary for the relocation of staff, facilities and their functions with space planning. + Leads the evaluation, creation of new, and updates to existing departmental policies and procedures in alignment with long-range objectives of the Libraries. + Represents the Libraries and provides oversight and coordination of some or all aspects of planning and construction as in collaboration with UW Facilities + Delegates the Preventative Maintenance work that is required for the Libraries buildings and systems. + Approves UW Facilities requisitions and coordinates with Libraries Facilities Staff on final approvals if necessary. + Participates with the Libraries Facilities team that responds to all staff work requests and the appropriate follow up, communicates regularly, and transparently with staff regarding progress on work. + Understands the project life cycle from concepts, schematics, design, construction documents, bidding documents and construction to closeout with UW.Facilities strategy & budget + Collaborates with Dean, Cabinet, and the Senior Director for RLS Planning & Infrastructure to develop and lead strategies for user and staff spaces across Seattle campus libraries: Suzzallo & Allen, seven branch libraries, Health Sciences, Odegaard, and Tateuchi East Asia Library. + Monitors and works closely with Facilities staff to manage complex budgets for the Libraries in partnership with UW Facilities and other vendors. + Creates strategic proposals to support the Libraries objectives around the transformation of spaces including the development of budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. + Demonstrates deep knowledge of UW processes. + Track Facilities & Events expenditures and assist the Senior Director for RLS Planning & Infrastructure/Facilities Cost Center Manager with budget planning and project prioritization, approves expenditures relating to maintenance with renovation capital projects repairs as needed, and develops and manage budget requests for Program Renewal funds. + Solicits and evaluates price quotations from UW Facilities and outside vendors, and makes recommendations to the Senior Associate Dean. + Provides oversight of Programmatic Renewal proposals and Capital projects for the Libraries, collaborating with the Libraries Account Manager from CAP/UW Facilities.Regulations & Safety + Ensure Libraries response to staff, students, and the general public’s concerns on issues relating to environmental, life safety, sanitary matters, and the interpretation and implementation of Federal, State, and adhering to University regulations relating to fire and life safety, ADA access, and seismic concerns and work collaboratively to develop priorities, define scope and supervise day-to-day workflow activities. + Assumes oversight role in maintaining safety standards both within the department, and throughout the Libraries. + Correct unsafe conditions and practices to the extent possible within the position and report all other unsafe conditions to administration. + Maintains life safety compliance throughout the Libraries following the UW policies and procedures. + Oversee work with UW Facilities Staff in the implementation and testing of the libraries emergency response systems and procedures in coordination with UW Police Department, Environmental health and Safety, UW Facilities Services, Seattle Fire Department and Seattle Police Department. **Other duties as assigned** **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** + Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field. + 5 years of management and leadership experience. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS** + Strong supervisory experience. + Demonstrated ability to utilize strong interpersonal skills to achieve project, service, and team success. May include diplomacy, influence, emotional intelligence, negotiation, collaboration, active listening, and communication. + Participated in, or led development and execution of, strategic and operational plans which integrate or rely on technical resources. + Knowledge of and commitment to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism in the workplace or community. + Experience with facilities management and planning and building maintenance oversight. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS** + Experience leading complex projects with efficient and flexible delegation of resources and decision making. + Knowledge of, and experience with, compliance and reporting requirements related to security and accessibility. + Experience working with multiple stakeholders as well as tracking budgets and project management. **Application Process:** The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
