About the RoleThe Director of Finance will be a founding member of the executive leadership team for a start-up FCA-regulated consumer credit card lender. Reporting directly to the CEO and holding a seat on the board, this role is critical in establishing and driving the operational success and financial strategy of the business.In addition to overseeing financial operations, you will build the finance function from the ground up, including configuring the general ledger and accounting software, establishing financial processes, and ensuring compliance with FCA and audit requirements. You will also be responsible for reconciliation reporting and statutory accounts submission, playing a key role in shaping the company’s long-term growth and sustainability.Responsibilities
1. Finance Team EstablishmentBuild and develop the finance team, ensuring recruitment of high-calibre talent to support business objectives.Design and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls suitable for a start-up environment.2. Accounting and Software ConfigurationSelect and configure the general ledger and accounting software to meet business needs.Establish robust financial reporting structures to support accurate and timely decision-making.3. Financial ManagementOversee cash flow management and settlement and ensure adequate liquidity to support operational and strategic goals.Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to drive informed decision-making.Conduct regular financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.Oversight, reconciliation and management of safeguarding account.4. Statutory Reporting and ComplianceEnsure accurate preparation and submission of statutory accounts in compliance with UK GAAP/IFRS.Oversee reconciliation reporting processes to maintain financial accuracy and transparency.Manage the audit process, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors and ensuring timely resolution of findings.5. Strategic ContributionProvide financial insights and recommendations to the CEO and board to shape business strategy.Collaborate with other senior leaders to align financial strategies with operational objectives.6. Governance and Regulatory ComplianceEnsure compliance with FCA regulations, particularly around financial reporting and risk management.Maintain and monitor robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and maintain regulatory standards.7. Debt financingOversee securitisation and debt financingSkills and Attributes requiredSignificant experience in a senior finance leadership role, preferably within a start-up or fast-growth, FCA-regulated financial services environment.Preferable to have experience with API (Authorised payment institution) or E-Money requirements such as safeguarding and client funds reconciliation.Proven expertise in establishing financial processes, configuring accounting systems, and building teams from scratch.Strong knowledge of FCA regulatory requirements and UK financial reporting standards.Experience managing audits and reconciliation processes.Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to overcoming challenges.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at board level.Experience and QualificationsQualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).Degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related discipline (preferred).Familiarity with FCA regulations, UK GAAP/IFRS, and start-up operations.Familiarity with balance sheet financing.Equal OpportunityZeta is an equal opportunity employer.
