The Director of Infection Prevention and Control is a position serves as a subject matter expert in the field of infection prevention and control and oversees the implementation of the organization’s overall Infection Prevention and Control program. The position is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of the Billings Clinic Infection Prevention Program, with a goal of reducing healthcare-associated infections and ensuring high quality, patient-centered care. The position is responsible for the planning, implementation, and continuous evaluation of infection prevention and control activities within Billings Clinic and fully owned branch locations.
The position will develop and work with all levels of the organization to assure policies and procedures are followed to prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and promote a culture of engagement and safety and continuous improvement in infection control practices.
The position works closely with the Medical Director, Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, clinical staff, administrators, and external agencies to safeguard the health of patients, employees, visitors, students, and volunteers. The position will be action-oriented, collaborative, and demonstrate a willingness to engage in hands-on efforts to drive identified improvements and lead by example.
Essential Job Functions
• Develops, recruits, retains, and leads an experienced and high-performing team committed to accomplishing the best in nation infection prevention and control practices and outcomes. Provides direct supervision and operational support for the Patient Safety Specialists in Infection Prevention and Control and healthcare data analyst / NHSN System Administrator for Billings Clinic
• Responsible for oversight of the organization’s compliance with Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Accreditation Standards, State and CMS regulations, and for the daily operations of the Infection Prevention and Control Department.
• Direct the surveillance, remediation and reporting of infections across the organization and leads the routine reporting of healthcare-associated infection (HAI) as well as publishes an annual program report.
• Identifies and implements updates to the Infection Prevention and Control Program when new regulations, and when professional society guidelines are published.
• Serves as the subject matter expert in all infection prevention matters in support of clinical staff, performance improvement teams, and hospital committees.
• Responsible for all administrative Infection Prevention and Control policies, assures policies are up to date, comprehensive, follow regulatory agency requirements comprehensive, and align with current best practice guidelines.
• Conducts ongoing assessment and develops training programs, policies & procedures, and forms to address the Infection Prevention needs of employees, volunteers, contract workers, independent contractors, physicians, registry workers and students in accordance with the guidelines established by the regulatory agencies.
• Develops and operationalizes the Infection Prevention and Control Program’s annual risk assessment, annual plans, and annual evaluations. Provides strategic development of the infection prevention and control program for the main Billings Clinic acute care hospital, surgery centers, ambulatory clinics, and all fully owned branch locations.
• Tracks and reports impact of reported healthcare-associated infections and provides stewardship of resources while promoting maximum patient outcomes, costs, and quality of care for all served.
• Maintains current knowledge and Board certification of infection control and epidemiology, knowledge of professional society guidelines (The Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC), Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), best practices and regulatory requirements as demonstrated by attending infection prevention conferences and workshops, reviewing current infection prevention literature, guidelines and national standard and networking with Health System and external Infection Prevention Specialists.
• Directs the organizations annual seasonal influenza screening and administration program for patients and co-chairs the Influenza and COVID-19 vaccination program activities with the Medical Director or Infection Prevention.

Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
• Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization

Minimum Qualifications
Education
• Minimum Bachelors Degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Public Health required
• Preferred Graduate Degree in Healthcare, Public Health, Nursing, or related field
Experience
• 5 years of progressive administrative leadership experience in infection prevention and control in a managing an acute care-based, Infection Control function with inpatient and ambulatory settings.
• 3 years of experience In a managerial or supervisory capacity
Certifications and Licenses
• Certification in infection control within 2 years of hire
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.
