Director of IT Clinical Informatics

Founded in 1906, McLeod Health is a locally owned and managed, not for profit organization supported by the strength of more than 900 members on its medical staff and more than 2,900 licensed nurses. McLeod Health is also composed of approximately 15,000 team members and more than 90 physician practices throughout its 18-county service area. With seven hospitals, McLeod Health operates three Health and Fitness Centers, a Sports Medicine and Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, Hospice and Home Health Services. The system currently has 988 licensed beds, including Hospice and Behavioral Health. The hospitals within McLeod Health include: McLeod Regional Medical Center, McLeod Health Dillon, McLeod Health Loris, McLeod Health Seacoast, McLeod Health Cheraw, McLeod Health Clarendon and McLeod Behavioral Health.  

Essential Job Responsibilities/Expectations
Job Summary: The Director of Clinical Informatics serves as the strategic liaison for health IT (HIT) initiatives, representing clinical needs within the healthcare organization. This individual combines deep knowledge of patient care, informatics principles, and change management strategies to support safe, effective, and efficient use of health information technology in clinical settings. The Director of Clinical Informatics is responsible for developing and implementing clinical systems strategies in collaboration with senior nursing, clinical, medical, and operational leaders. This role acts as a change agent, ensuring clinical practices align with regulatory standards, and drives improvements in patient care outcomes through the optimization of clinical workflows and IT systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1.    Strategic Leadership & Collaboration
a.    Serve as a strategic liaison for HIT efforts, representing clinical needs across multiple departments.
b.    Collaborate with senior nursing, clinical, and IT leaders to develop and execute clinical informatics strategies.
c.    Provide critical analysis and evaluation of IT systems, recommending changes to clinical systems, processes, and workflows.
d.    Engage with executives in strategic planning and decision-making for health care services and organizational priorities.
2.    Clinical System Development & Optimization
a.    Develop clinical system strategies that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements (DNV, Practice Acts, etc.).
b.    Lead large, multi-faceted clinical informatics projects, ensuring successful implementation and adoption of health IT solutions.
c.    Act as a change agent in planning, implementing, and evaluating informatics strategies to enhance professional practice and patient care.
3.    Quality & Compliance
a.    Ensure clinical practices and policies are in compliance with federal, state, and industry standards.
b.    Demonstrate leadership and commitment to quality management by promoting a process-oriented and risk-based approach to HIT.
c.    Engage and support staff to contribute to the effectiveness of quality management system requirements.
4.    Customer Relations & Service Excellence
a.    Maintain a professional image and demonstrate excellent customer service in all interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in accordance with Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
5.    Informatics & Change Management
a.    Use knowledge of patient care, informatics, and change management to address the information and knowledge needs of healthcare professionals.
b.    Implement informatics strategies to promote safe, efficient use of HIT and drive positive patient outcomes.
c.    Lead efforts to promote continuous improvement in clinical systems, workflows, and user satisfaction.

Job Requirements
Qualifications & Training:
•    Epic Certification in Clinical Informatics (or equivalent certification).
•    Minimum of five years of clinical experience (preferably in a hospital setting).
•    At least three years of experience in computer system application modifications, support, and implementation.
•    Proven track record of leadership in managing multiple clinical projects and/or large-scale, complex initiatives.
•    Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate clinical operations and structure processes for optimized decision-making.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
•    Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state.
•    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, a Master’s degree in Informatics, Healthcare Administration, or related field strongly preferred.
