Director of Labor Market Policy
Job Summary: AAF Director of Labor Market Policy AAF seeks a motivated policy expert to lead the organization's labor market policy research and activities. This position requires an interest in labor market policy details and the ability to research and communicate effectively about a wide swath of policy priorities including workforce development, paid family leave, minimum wage, and the economic impact of regulatory activity at the Department of Labor. Familiarity with issues like workforce skills gaps, overtime pay thresholds, joint-employer distinctions, labor impact of the opioid crisis, policies that enhance attachment to the workforce, and labor market implications of immigration are especially welcome. Strong data analysis skills, ability to write succinctly on short deadlines, and a background in economics are preferred. Must be able to quickly locate details, analyze data, produce concise written research on deadline, and work collaboratively with communications staff. Good candidates will demonstrate a proactive ability to assess legislative and regulatory priorities as well as a commitment to free market-oriented policy solutions. Developing and maintaining relationships in the larger labor market policy field will be helpful for this role. This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer, and is located in Washington, D.C. Responsibilities and Duties + This position is responsible for all of AAF's labor market policy products, and must be proactive about pursuing research, producing original analysis, and locating useful data sources + Ideal candidates will be able to creatively develop policy solutions and explain complicated policy topics in an engaging and succinct way. Qualifications and Skills + Three or more years working in this policy field on Capitol Hill, a relevant agency, or commensurate experience + At least a bachelor's degree + A firm grasp of labor market policy topics, recent NLRB developments, and key legislative proposals affecting employment policy + Strong writing and research skills + Ability to multi-task and shift priorities with little notice + An interest in working for a think tank that emphasizes smaller government, sensible conservative policy solutions, and smart financial services policy that benefits consumers and avoids unnecessary Federal government overreach + Ability to communicate complex policy and its implications to a variety of audiences and stakeholders, including media Benefits/Salary Health coverage, paid time off, retirement savings plan, cell phone reimbursement, pre-tax accounts for commuting and dependent care, gym membership Salary commensurate with experience, anticipated range is $85,000-$135,000.
