Director of Laboratory Services

POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Hospital COO, CMO or designee, the Director of Laboratory Services is accountable for overseeing the management of the laboratory, assuring accurate and timely test analysis, maintaining and properly utilizing all resources, establishing and implementing sectional goals and policies, promoting competency of staff and students through education, and ensuring appropriate and timely orientation for new employees. Applies knowledge and skills, professionally in daily performance of management activities. Assists in the design, measurement, monitoring and implementation of programs to improve patient care within the hospital as measured by improved clinical outcome, improved efficiency of resource use and improved patient and physician satisfaction. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and managing all administrative aspects of laboratory services and laboratory outreach departments in accordance with Ardent Health Services, regulatory agencies and hospital guidelines. Responsible for the business development of the outreach laboratory function including product definition, product development, pricing, profitability, revenue growth, client and employee satisfaction Responsibilities Supervision Duties: Directly supervises all activities of the hospital laboratory team, makes decisions regarding hiring, promotions, salary adjustments, and disciplinary actions in accordance with the hospital/corporate salary and personnel policies’ and evaluates performance of individual employees that report directly to this position. Develops a sound leadership team to manage the daily functions of the laboratory and directly manages these leaders, sets goals and objectives and holds leaders accountable to such goals and objectives. Financial Duties: Develops, secures approval for, and administers laboratory departmental budget in accordance with policies and procedures. Responsible for cost containment, efficient operations, client satisfaction, employee satisfaction and effective utilization of the clinical laboratory as it services hospital and ambulatory physician and patient needs. Strategic Development: Develops short and long-term goals and objectives for the department based on hospital specific and corporate initiatives. Responsible for clear communication of goals and objectives to organization stakeholders and staff as indicated. Maintains records and compiles data to ensure compliance with all Division/Corporate policies, and with applicable regulatory agencies (local, state, federal, and accreditation) to meet regulations. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or Physical Science OR Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician with >8 years of experience in the clinical laboratory and >3 years in a management or supervisory role. Laboratory certification from an accredited laboratory certification program: CLS, MLS, MT or equivalent 3+ years’ progressive leadership experience in the laboratory setting 3+ years’ management experience Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Entry Level Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook Excellent communication skills
