Scope of Responsibility:

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all equipment, machinery, and facilities at all of Sabre engineered transmission structure manufacturing plants. This leadership role ensures optimal equipment performance, minimizes downtime, and supports production efficiency through the development and implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. The Director will lead a team of maintenance managers, supervisors, and technicians, driving continuous improvement in the maintenance department, safety standards, operational cost management, and the successful rollout of a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program.

 

Essential Duties:

Lead and manage the maintenance departments, including team members at all levels (managers, supervisors, technicians). Develop and implement maintenance policies and procedures that align with company goals and regulatory requirements. Create and manage a high-performance team, providing mentorship, training, and performance evaluations. Collaborate with production, engineering, and safety teams to ensure optimal equipment reliability and plant uptime. Develop, implement, and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize asset reliability and longevity. Oversee the preparation and execution of long-term maintenance strategies for capital assets, machinery, and facility systems. Conduct regular audits of equipment and facility conditions to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards. Establish and maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and materials to ensure immediate availability for repairs and routine maintenance tasks. Develop, implement, and lead a company-wide TPM program to maximize the overall effectiveness of equipment and machinery. Foster collaboration across teams to implement TPM pillars, including autonomous maintenance, focused improvement, early equipment management, and training. Monitor TPM metrics (OEE, MTTR, MTBF) and ensure continuous improvement in equipment reliability, uptime, and production efficiency. Lead TPM training initiatives to upskill maintenance, production, and operations teams on best practices and lean maintenance techniques. Support the development of a culture of ownership and accountability by empowering operators and maintenance personnel to identify, diagnose, and resolve equipment issues. Monitor and analyze equipment performance data to identify areas of improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary. Develop and manage maintenance budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Oversee the procurement of maintenance supplies, equipment, and services, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality. Ensure that all maintenance activities are performed in compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental standards, and company safety policies. Promote and maintain a safe working environment, leading by example and fostering a culture of safety within the maintenance team. Ensure all necessary permits, inspections, and certifications are in place for maintenance work and equipment operation. Lead major maintenance projects, including equipment upgrades, repairs, and plant expansion initiatives. Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance services and equipment repairs. Develop project timelines, allocate resources, and track progress to ensure timely and within-budget project completion. Foster a culture of continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making, root cause analysis, and process optimization. Analyze historical maintenance data to identify patterns and implement measures to reduce unplanned downtime and maintenance costs. Stay current with the latest advancements in maintenance technology and industry best practices, and apply them to enhance plant performance. Report for work on time and fulfill your shift responsibilities as planned. Complete all responsibilities during your assigned shift as outlined in the schedule. Position Requirements:

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is required.  Relevant certifications (e.g., TPM, Six Sigma, PMP, or maintenance management certifications) area plus.

 Experience:

At least 10 years of experience in maintenance management, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership or director role, preferably within the steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing industry. Extensive experience with preventive and predictive maintenance techniques, machinery repair, and facilities management. Proven experience in developing and implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) programs. Proven experience managing maintenance budgets, projects, and cross-functional teams. Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining complex manufacturing equipment, such as welding machines, CNC machines, conveyors, and other fabrication tools.

Skills & Abilities:

Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop employees. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure. In-depth knowledge of maintenance software, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems), and other relevant tools. Strong understanding of industrial safety standards and regulatory requirements. Exceptional organizational, communication, and project management skills. Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and levels of the organization.

Physical Requirements:

Full-time position, typically Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend or after-hours work required for plant maintenance or urgent repairs. Ability to be on-call for emergency repairs and to travel between plant locations if needed. Physical demands include walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
