**Job Summary and Qualifications**
The Director of Med/Surg is a management position with 24-hour responsibility for the assigned patient care areas in Med/Surg and Oncology. The Director will promote professional practice and coordinate patient care activities in the areas of administration, clinical, and human resources. This position requires an advanced level of management expertise as demonstrated through leadership, departmental functioning and educational preparation.
+ You will perform basic leadership responsibilities which includes but not limited to: 1) Participates actively in selected committee activities. 2) Serves as a professional role model. 3) Provides positive leadership to departmental, hospital, and corporate committees and programs. 4) Empowers the staff for professional decision-making at the operational level. 5) Assures regulatory compliance (e.g., DHS, OSHA, JCAHO). 6) Remains current in health care issues and trends and identifies the impact on the organization.
+ You will develop and integrate departmental goals and objectives to support the hospital’s vision, mission, and strategic plan.
+ You will evaluate and develop staff through coaching, teaching, discipline and evaluation.
+ You will assess and improve department’s/service area’s performance on an ongoing basis; gather information, draw conclusions and implement performance improvements; and evaluate performance to achieve sustained results.
**What qualifications you will need:**
+ Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. BSN required. Master’s degree preferred.
+ Current valid California RN license
+ Current BCLS certification
+ Certified Nurse Administrator and/or National RN certification preferred
+ Minimum of 5 years recent experience in acute care/management
+ Minimum 3 years experience as a manager with 24-hour responsibility
+ Leadership background in Med Surg and/or Oncology highly preferred
Riverside Community Hospital is a large acute care facility with 517 beds, established in 1901. It has the most extensive Emergency Room and Level I Trauma Center in the Inland Empire region and is the primary recipient of STEMI (heart attack) cases in Riverside County. The hospital is accredited as a Chest Pain Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center and has a HeartCare Institute that offers both invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures. Riverside has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which it is very proud of.
