Director of Media Messaging Alliance Defending Freedom is looking for a highly results-oriented Director of Media Messaging to join our team in Lansdowne, VA. As the Director of Media Messaging, you are a vital part of the Media Relations team. In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Media Relations and are responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the media relations team, overseeing message development, talking points, responses to media inquiries, and ensuring the smooth operation of media initiatives and campaigns. You will directly supervise media relations team members and oversee their work on ADF’s issue portfolios. Your Essential Responsibilities: In this position, you will: + Collaborate with the VP of Media Relations to craft messaging that reflects ADF’s strategic priorities. Oversee and guide the message development process for life, parental rights, corporate, and conscience portfolios ensuring clear, compelling, and consistent messaging is developed across key issues. + Oversee the day-to-day functions of the media relations team, including daily media pitching/outreach, responses to inquiries, and message development across portfolios. + Guide the messaging of the media relations team members, training them to translate complex issues into persuasive, memorable talking points that reflect impactful narratives. + Mentor and support team members, providing guidance on media outreach, message development, and content creation while fostering a professional, driven environment and enforcing standards and guidelines of the Media Relations team. + Assist the VP in developing and executing strategic media communication plans to promote ADF’s advocacy efforts and increase brand visibility. + Collaborate with the Vice President of Media Relations and the Director of Media Engagement to strengthen the media team’s efficacy and service to ADF. Work with the Director of Media Engagement to equip the CEO Communications team with messaging, talking points, and materials for CEO media opportunities. + Work with the Director of Media Engagement to equip the CEO Communications team with messaging, talking points, and materials for CEO media opportunities as needed. + Monitor and analyze media coverage, providing insights and recommendations for improvement. As a Team Leader, you will: + Act as a servant leader by training, encouraging, coaching, and developing your Team Members. + Foster a spirit of trust and of innovation on your team. + Meet regularly with your Team Members to discuss their progress and complete performance reviews. + Approve PTO requests, timecards, and expense reports. Skills you need to succeed: Knowledge of: + Strategic messaging and media communication best practices, including message development, talking points development, and alignment with organizational priorities. + Media outreach, pitching, and responding to inquiries across diverse portfolios. + Translating complex issues into clear, persuasive narratives that resonate with target audiences. + High-level media, with an acute understanding of the booking, pitching, and messaging process + Familiarity with the legal process and legal terminology Demonstrated proficiency in: + Project management, including process improvement, timeline management, and performance accountability. + Working with multi-functional stakeholders to create impactful and lasting campaigns. + Distilling complex issues into accessible, memorable language and talking points. + Creating and implementing complex media campaigns in coordination with several stakeholders. Ability to: + Lead, motivate, and develop team members by fostering a spirit of working with joy and excellence + Balance multiple priorities under tight deadlines, remaining agile and responsive in fast-paced media environments. + Demonstrate a proactive, self-driven approach and a “whatever it takes” mentality + Develop communications content—to include messaging documents, fact sheets, opinion editorials, and research resource + Develop and execute crisis communications processes and plans in collaboration with leadership. + Travel as needed.
