Job Summary The Office of New Student Onboarding is seeking a Director of New Student Onboarding. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position. The Director of New Student Onboarding is responsible for the comprehensive leadership of the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Oregon State University’s comprehensive New Student Onboarding ( NSO ) for all new undergraduate students. NSO is designed to support student success by facilitating a seamless transition to OSU through academic, social, and personal development experiences that promote a strong sense of belonging and community. Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost ( AVP ) for Student Affairs, the Director serves as a university leader who provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Office of New Student Onboarding ( NSO ). They work in close collaboration with campus partners, including Colleges, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, Educational Ventures, Cascades and university leadership. The Director is responsible for ensuring that the NSO experience reflects best practices in student onboarding, is inclusive and equitable for diverse student populations, and aligns with OSU’s strategic goals to enhance student success and retention. The Director provides overall direction on the strategic planning including the use of research, data, and assessment results to inform goal setting and evaluation, as well as thoughtful decision making in regards to resource allocation and budget management, and in pursuit of growth and innovation where applicable of OAS . The work performed by the Director is collaborative, high-functioning, and comprised of multiple, distinct programs which operate under a shared vision and shared values. Key Responsibilities Leadership and Strategic Direction (35%) + Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of OSU’s New Student Onboarding experience, includingLaunch,Accelerate, andLearn by Doingelements. + Provide strategic vision and leadership for onboarding programs, ensuring alignment with the university’s strategic plans, includingProsperity Widely Shared. + Collaborate with university stakeholders to ensure onboarding processes meet the needs of diverse student populations, including first-year students, transfer students, international students, and online learners. + Develop strategies to enhance student engagement and community building during the onboarding process, fostering a sense of belonging for all new students. + Develops a comprehensive and sustainable organizational strategy that ensure cross functional collaboration. Program Management and Coordination (25%) + Oversee the coordination of all onboarding events and initiatives, including pre-arrival communications, orientation sessions, advising and registration processes, and first-year engagement activities. + Lead the NSO team and university through changes in and further development of onboarding practices. + Ensure onboarding efforts are cohesive across Corvallis, OSU -Cascades, and Ecampus, adjusting programming as necessary for different student populations and learning modalities. + Lead the integration of onboarding with academic advising and core education initiatives to ensure new students are academically prepared and informed about university resources. + Ensures that onboarding programs, practices and evaluation are closely integrated and aligned with new student advising, experiential learning and Core Education. + Stewards the fiscal health and budgetary constraints/opportunities of NSO programs. Collaboration, Relationship Building and Stakeholder Engagement (20%) + Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with academic colleges, student affairs units, and campus support services to ensure onboarding programs are aligned with institutional student success goals. + Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and student service professionals to design and deliver seamless onboarding experiences that promote student engagement, belonging, and retention. + Establish regular communication channels with key stakeholders, including academic leadership, administrative departments, and student organizations, to identify shared priorities and ensure cohesive onboarding efforts. + Partner with Enrollment Management, Admissions, and the Registrar’s Office to streamline processes that support students from admission through their first term. + Collaborate with the Career Development Center, Academic Success Center, and other student support services to integrate academic and career planning into onboarding programs. + Work with Student Affairs and University Housing and Dining to coordinate programming that addresses the social, emotional, and cultural transition needs of students and their families. + Build relationships with external stakeholders, including community organizations and alumni, to create opportunities for new students to connect with broader support networks. + Develop partnerships with Ecampus and OSU Cascades leadership to ensure onboarding programs meet the needs of diverse student populations across different campus locations and online environments. + Serve as a liaison to parent and family networks to ensure they receive relevant and timely information that supports their students’ success. + Collaborate with stakeholders and assessment to gather feedback from stakeholders and use data to continuously improve onboarding strategies and programs. + Engage in regular cross-departmental meetings to align onboarding initiatives with broader institutional strategic plans, including Prosperity Widely Shared and Thriving Together. + Advocate for the needs of new students and their families in institutional discussions, ensuring onboarding programs remain responsive to evolving student needs and university goals. Supervision (15%) + Directly supervise professional staff within the Office of New Student Onboarding. + Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to staff to ensure high-quality program delivery. + Oversee the recruitment, training, and management of student leaders who assist with onboarding events and peer support initiatives. Assessment and Continuous Improvement (5%) + Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure the effectiveness of the onboarding experience, focusing on key metrics such as student engagement, satisfaction, retention, and academic success. + Use data-driven insights to improve the onboarding experience over time, addressing feedback from students, families, and campus partners. + Ensure that all onboarding programs are informed by best practices in student transition and retention and reflect OSU’s commitment to equity and inclusion. What You Will Need + Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field. + Five years of progressively responsible experience in student orientation, transition, retention programs, or a related field in higher education. + Demonstrated experience in building strong relationships and collaboration with various stakeholders. + Demonstrated experience managing large-scale events and programs, including budget oversight. + Strong leadership skills, with experience working with diverse student populations. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
