Position Title: Director of Nursing
Location: Yonkers, NY
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Residential Services Administrator, the Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the 919 N Broadway residence to ensure a high quality of life for its residents. This role ensures that each individual’s person-centered needs—including physical, emotional, social, familial, safety, and communication requirements—are met. The Director of Nursing provides leadership, supervision, and guidance to nursing and support staff, fostering a culture of excellence and adherence to Richmond’s mission and values.
As a key liaison between families, the community, and Richmond’s internal teams, the Director of Nursing ensures compliance with organizational policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The role also includes orienting and training staff on clinical procedures, administering TB testing and follow-up, and participating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance services for residents and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Develop, maintain, and implement nursing policies and procedures aligned with current nursing standards, facility philosophy, and regulatory requirements.
+ Communicate and enforce policies among nursing staff, ensuring adherence and best practices.
+ Participate in resident admission decisions and conduct pre-admission visits as needed.
+ Collaborate with the management team to address resident status, census changes, and other operational concerns.
+ Evaluate nursing staff performance, recommend wage adjustments, and apply disciplinary measures when necessary.
+ Ensure compassionate, high-quality care through adequate staffing, proactive injury prevention, and optimal resident function maintenance.
+ Monitor and implement strategies to achieve or exceed agency performance thresholds.
+ Oversee resident assessments, care plans, and care delivery.
+ Collaborate with physicians and clinical professionals to improve care quality and resolve issues.
+ Manage nursing schedules to meet resident needs and budgetary constraints.
+ Recruit, select, and onboard nursing staff, maintaining adequate coverage.
+ Organize and supervise ongoing staff training on clinical procedures and resident rights.
+ Conduct rounds to observe care, interview stakeholders, and ensure satisfaction.
+ Monitor compliance with OSHA and workplace safety policies, developing initiatives to promote safety.
+ Lead the infection control program to maintain a safe and sanitary environment, including preparing reports and addressing trends.
+ Actively participate in key committees, including Quality Assurance, Human Rights, and Admissions.
+ Coordinate quality assurance activities to monitor nursing compliance and regulatory adherence, summarizing findings for review.
+ Foster communication among residents, families, medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
+ Promote a culture of hospitality and customer service, addressing and resolving concerns effectively.
Qualifications:
Education:
+ Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related field.
Experience:
+ 5–10 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN).
+ 4–5 years of management experience.
+ Preferred: 1–2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
+ Preferred: 1–2 years of experience in long-term care (LTC) settings.
