Summary: + The Director of Nursing Education and Professional Practice provides leadership in all aspects of nursing education, professional development, and professional nursing practice at Pennsylvania Hospital. They are responsible for the support of nursing excellence initiatives that advance the organization, improve clinical and workforce outcomes, and elevate the profession of nursing. This leader inspires a culture of solution-based innovation and identifies creative and inventive approaches to nursing practice. In collaboration with nursing leadership and inter-professional teams; works to communicate and inspire the nursing mission, vision and values for achieving nursing excellence. Collaborates with leaders across the organization to ensure integration of work that drives high-quality patient care.Accountable for overseeing educational and professional development programming for nursing. Partners with members of the clinical leadership team to identify opportunities in nursing practice and performance and delivers appropriate educational intervention. Provides oversight to all nursing-based research. Serves as a liaison with external academic partners. Delivers leadership for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program® at Pennsylvania Hospital. Provides direction for collection, evaluation, and dissemination of National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and other Magnet-related data. Facilitates project management. Responsibilities: + Serves as director for the Department of Nursing Professional Practice & Magnet, Department of Nursing Research, Library and Historical Services, Department of Nursing Education, Wound and Ostomy Care, and Diabetes Patient Education Center. 30+ FTEs of Nursing Leaders.Provides subject matter expertise and process improvement oversight within nursing services, across the organization, and throughout the health-system for advancement of nursing practice.Participates as an executive leader in the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing departmental goals and objectives.Drives development and execution of Nursing Strategic Plan, based on input from nurses at all levels of practice.Ensures communication strategy for nursing shared mission, vision, values, and professional practice model.Applies data-based approaches and facilitates innovation and creativity in the development of new initiatives that support ongoing performance improvement and organizational growth.Develops and promotes effective relationships with members of the inter-professional team to promote an environment of collaborative practice.Is responsible for engendering an understanding of the work nurses perform to improve institutional responsiveness to nurses’ needs.Serves as a strategic leader for the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program at the organization work to coordinate, develop, disseminate, and enculturate the ANCC Magnet Model Components.Makes recommendations on quality initiatives that align with Magnet standards and collaborate with the nursing leadership team in development and execution of these action items.Coordinates implementation and sustainability of a shared professional governance structure to advance practice of nursing.Oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of professional development programming that is responsive to the needs of nursing staff at all levels of practice.Provides leadership for a comprehensive and cohesive competency-based approach to nursing education and development including orientation, annual required education and curricula that supports lifelong learning and all aspects of professional practice including compliance with regulatory standards, evidence-based practice, policies, procedures, standards and professional accountability.Serves as liaison with academic partners, oversees student placements from pre-licensure through graduate programs.Works collaboratively with nursing leaders to create, implement, and improve programs that respond to new-to-practice nurses including oversight of the Nurse Residency Program, Nurse Extern Program, and Drexel Co-Op program.Ensures that the needs of our diverse employee and patient population are considered in program planning and design.Provides oversight to nursing related research activities.Incorporates relevant nursing and patient care research findings, evidence-based practice standards/guidelines into staff development programming.Interprets trends in health care, nursing education practice and research, and directs the overall instructional operation in light of current demands, quality management data and changing priorities/needsCollaborates with health-system leads in nursing education, practice, and Magnet. Credentials: + Registered Nurse - PA (Required) Education or Equivalent Experience: + Master of Arts or Science (Required) + Education Specialization:NursingEquivalent Experience with 5+ years of experience in education development, planning and implementation and evaluation.
