The Nursing Director is a Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for upholding excellence in the provision of nursing care through the implementation of the Professional Practice Model. The Nursing Director is responsible for operational, human resource, quality, and financial management of the assigned department. The Nursing Director utilizes professional practice as the foundation for leading nursing practice. The Nursing Director collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to translate and implement organizational and divisional priorities into the department’s operations. The Nursing Director implements quality and safety initiatives, leads process improvement, and ensures adherence to hospital and clinical standards of performance. The Nursing Director ensures a patient care environment that supports a safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, productive, and engaged staff. The Nursing Director partners with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure the delivery of safe, quality patient care and compliance with administrative, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures.

Function/Duties of Position

Responsible for the administrative, financial, strategic and clinical direction of OHSU & DCH Mother Baby Unit, Newborn Nursery, Labor and Delivery Unit, Maternity OR Suites, Maternity PACU areas including Neonatal Resuscitation Space, Labor and Delivery Triage (including triage-based emergency services), Inpatient lactation services.

 

The Nursing Director’s decisions and actions are based on the ethical principles outlined by the American Nurses Association’s Code of Ethics for Nursing. The Nursing Director practices in adherence with the American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Nursing Administration: Scope and Standards of Practice for Nurse

Administrators, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing, the Oregon State Board of Nursing’s Nurse Practice Act, and within the context of the Nurse Executive Competencies developed by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). Requires prioritization of multiple projects, activities, andFrequent interruptions in an environment of frequent change andMay be exposed to excessive auditory and visualFor inpatient units: accepts 24/7 accountability and responsibility to include possibility of stepping into patient care or clerical role, as needed. For outpatient or special service-type units: accountability and responsibility for overall program during hours of operation and overall program coordination, including stepping into a clinical or clerical role asMay be required to attend out of town conferences according to hospital travel and reimbursementSubject to computer work for several as neededMust be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of internal and external customers including ensuring safe conditions for patients, families andExercises the ability to implement a flexible work schedule to meet the unit needs and to create a work-life balance Required Qualifications

 Five years of experience in a related clinical area

And Four years related management/leadership experience.

Experience in complex organization environments.

Ability to effectively manage multiple conflicting priorities.

 

Proficient with word processing, computational spreadsheet (e.g., Excel),

and presentation software.

Professional certification in nursing leadership-e.g. Nurse Executive/Administrator within 3 years of assuming the director role.

 

Unencumbered Oregon RN license BLS for healthcare provider
