POSITION TITLE: Director of Operations

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Salary Range $75,000 - $85,000

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Operations has the responsibility to assist the Center Director in successfully leading all areas of the daily operations of The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center) in Hawaii, with a particular focus on the Operations, including but not limited to: Hospitality and Member Services, Facility Upkeep, Food & Beverage Service, Rentals and Special Events, Contracts, Corporate Compliance, Risk Management and other duties as assigned.
The Director of Operations will coordinate the aforementioned activities throughout the Kroc Center in an efficient and consistent manner. In the absence of the Administrator, Center Director, the Director of Operations has full and direct responsibility for all venues of Kroc Center operations and programs as assigned by the Administrator. The Director of Operations advises and makes recommendations to the Administrator and Center Director regarding overall departmental and organizational goals, objectives, programs, procedures, and policies. The purpose of the Director of Operations position is to provide a consistent executive and ministry driving force throughout all areas of the Kroc Center and to help represent The Salvation Army Kroc Center in the community.
The Director of Operations will oversee well over 120 employees and provide direct supervision to the Membership Manager, Kitchen Manager, Facilities Manager, Sales & Events Manager and Operations Coordinator. The Director of Operations will develop and review all business operations and practices to ensure Mission alignment and supports life transformation. The use of various models and methods will be utilized to measure and ensure success in these areas.
The Director of Operations will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the way he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree in Business, Hospitality, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience. Must have 5 to 10 years of extensive supervisory experience, preferably in a Business, Program, or Corps setting. More than 5 years of experience working with in a multi-faceted church, business or non-profit that has numerous programs and services, supervising and managing large teams including direct supervision of management-level teams. Minimum of 5 years of experience in budget preparation, fiscal management, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. Minimum 5 years of experience in business development, planning and management. Have the ability to develop and administer facility and department budgets. Ability to effectively understand, reflect and communicate the Christian principles, mission, goals, and strengths of The Salvation Army and The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong motivational, management and proven leadership skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Operations is responsible for directing all aspects of Kroc Center Operations and will support initiatives or projects assigned by the Center Director. The Director of Operations will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the center, including but not limited to: Hospitality and Member Services, Facility Upkeep, Food & Beverage Services, Corporate Compliance, Risk Management, Contracts, Venue Rentals, Special Events, and other duties as assigned. The Director of Operations will directly supervise the Facility Manager, Kitchen Manager, Café Manager, Sales & Events Manager, Member Services Manager and Operations Coordinator. Oversees the preparation and implementation of overarching operational goals. Routinely prepares recurring reports outlining progress towards these goals. Directly responsible for the Operations Budget (ie. Corps Appropriations), and gives input to the overall Kroc Center budget. Assist and train all Kroc Center Managers to successfully manage their departments’ daily financial and business operations: e.g. Vivid reports, budget forecasting and reviews, asset inventories, proformas and business plans, etc. Seeks operational efficiencies throughout the center. Provides guidance to each direct report in developing their individual Department Budgets and ensures department managers achieve fiscal objectives. Leads in the development of fiscally sound programs. Leads staffing strategies to ensure efficient staffing levels. Risk Management. Oversees Kroc-wide Safety Program. Leads Safety Committee Meetings. Reviews all Accident/Incident Reports and ensures safety best practices are implemented throughout the Center. Hosts weekly Operations meetings to plan, discuss, communicate and coordinate ongoing activities throughout the center. Allocates and secures resources accordingly. Ensures recurring issues are resolved in an efficient manner. The Director of Operations is responsible for all legal, insurance and property matters related to the safe and sound operation of Kroc Center in coordination with the Administrator and Center Director. The Director of Operations will serve as the liaison with DHQ and THQ on all pertinent matters. Meets regularly with the Center Director to make recommendations for repairs, remodeling, and replacement of facilities and equipment. Under the guidance of the Administrator and CD, oversees the Capital Reserve Replacement Program (CRR) which includes both short and long-term capital improvement needs. Works directly with contractors to generate proposals for review and submission. Ensures projects are completed on time and within the allotted budget. Prepares the CRR budget for review and approval. Is part of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) which includes the Kroc Administrators (Corps Officers), Center Director and the Director of Programs. Meets weekly to discuss strategic initiatives and provides routine input to ELT discussions. As part of the ELT, facilitates and provides coaching and training to all managers during Manager Meetings, Retreats and other staff meetings. Routinely generates The Salvation Army Meeting Manager (TSAMM) proposals for Finance, Personnel, Property and other matters needing approval by the Command Finance Council (CFC). Works in a cooperative manner with all Kroc Center managers to discuss and resolve any problems or concerns that may be occurring within the center. Using our Customer Service training model, provides guidance to direct reports in addressing customer issues to ensure effective and long-term resolution and satisfaction. Serves as an escalation point in the chain-of-command, and in some cases, works directly with customers to resolve open issues. Maintains clear channels of communication with the Administrator, other Directors, support staff and necessary personnel and program participants. This will include the writing of internal memos, mail, schedules, flyers, newsletters and one-on-one discussions. Responds professionally to requests and inquiries from all constituents. i.e. Guests, members, program participants and staff. Collaborates with managers, directors, support staff and DHQ. Must have strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, and able to generate, maintain and demonstrate a friendly enthusiastic positive attitude. Oversees the Kroc Center’s Inventory Program which is subject to annual audits. Leads direct reports in maintaining their inventory of equipment and supplies. Submits purchasing requisitions as needed to meet operational needs following budgetary guidelines and procedures for procurement. Serves as the senior Kroc liaison with the THQ I.T. Department in all matters related to kiosks, software, security systems, internet and cable vendors and contractors, the procurement and maintenance of all I.T. equipment and all other I.T. related issues. The Director of Operations must have keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills, which allows for strategic data interpretation vs. simple reporting. Provides important metrics and reports to help in decision-making. The Director of Operations must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and possess experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, CFC, Advisory Council and other stakeholders. Assures all business transactions (eg. rental agreements, event contracts) are processed promptly and that appropriate deposits are executed per policy. Ensures all rented Kroc Center spaces are stewarded well—inspected before and following event rentals. The Director of Operations will routinely lead and assist with special Kroc Center projects, which may include seasonal community and fundraising activities of The Salvation Army. Examples include Annual Member Open House Events, Christmas Programs (Red Kettle Campaign, Angel Tree, etc.) and other duties as assigned. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures. Maintain the Kroc Center Hawaii Code of Ethics. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires a high degree of energy, physical fitness and endurance. Physical effort required for daily duties include lifting heavy weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting & prolonged standing and walking. Must be able to frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
The position requires sitting, climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays as needed to support the business. Most work will be at The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Hawaii. There will also be times where this employee will be outdoors and travel to other TSA sites or off-campus. Attendance at trainings and conferences, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, is required. Extensive travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, overnight travel, and extended travel of five days or more.

The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation.
On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program.
