Overall responsibility to oversee Patient Access’s day-to-day activities and management of registration, pre-admissions, admissions, insurance verification, financial counselors, bed tracking, collections (co-payment and deductibles) in Emergency Room, Inpatient and Outpatient services. The position is responsible for the staffing, training, processes in all of the above services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee Registration and Patient Access policies and procedures to ensure the service levels exceed the needs of the customer. Customer is defined as a patient, a department within the hospital, referring MDs, insurance companies and regulatory agencies, etc.
• Develops and maintains departmental processes and procedures to comply with and adapt to changes in regulatory requirements. Establishes goals and outcomes throughout the service areas including but not limited to accuracy, timeliness.
• Develops, establishes, implements, and evaluates systems to monitor accuracy and timeliness of registrations.
• Monitors KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to report outcomes and make recommendations to senior staff for changes.
• Demonstrates an excellent understanding of revenue cycle management.
• Work collaboratively with Patient Financial Services, Case Management and other department areas to meet the overall hospital goals and objectives, including billing, denials, etc.
• Hires, fires, disciplines, evaluates and effectively motivates team to meet high levels of Service Excellence. Monitors all areas and identify training opportunities to address the issues. Develop training programs to ensure staff engagement and communication.
• Establishes a positive impression and maintains good customer service with patient, families, medical staff, physicians and other employees of the organization.
• Participate in the hospital and department budgeting process and ensure staff are included in the goal setting process.
• Ensure there is an atmosphere of open communication and support within the department to ensure staff buy-in of the Hospital’s Annual Operating Plan and achieving department goals.
• Create and compiles productivity measures to track staff performance.
• Attends meetings both internal (e,g. Leadership Council, etc.) and external (e.g. HFMA, Medicaid CAC, trade association meetings etc.) or as directed by management.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience may substitute degree requirement.
• Five years’ experience in Registration/Admitting departments in healthcare organization.
• Five years’ supervisor/managerial experience.
• Thorough knowledge of registration/access functions.
Preferred:
• Bi-lingual (Spanish)
