Summary:
Reports to the Vice President Associate Chief Nursing Officer. The Director is responsible for executive level management of Pediatric Patient Services. Specific responsibilities include establishing nursing standards of practice along with the design implementation evaluation and continuous improvement of programs and systems of patient care delivery.

Develops and recommends short and long-term objectives for Pediatric Patient Services to achieve Brown University Health�s mission and key business objectives. Provides sponsorship to the functions by identifying resources required to achieve optimal operating results and advocates for areas of responsibility during resource allocation. Develops recommends implements and monitors capital and operating budgets for the hospital�s Pediatric Patient Services.
Directs the effective use of resources (people financial material and equipment) to meet established goals and objectives of Brown University Health and the hospital.
In collaboration with Vice-President/ACNO establishes operating priorities and actions that support the system�s strategies while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Ensures effective recruitment selection development and evaluation of managerial professional and support staff to optimize the achievement of goals and objectives.
Collaborates with Pediatrician-in-Chief and Vice President/ACNO to assess patient family and community needs and develop coordinated patient- and family-centered care and clinical programs. Develops collaborative relationships with physicians and other colleagues. Consults and collaborates with peers and other colleagues in defining and setting standards of professional nursing practice and clinical standards of pediatric care. Promotes effective planning and coordination of services with physicians other departments and outside agencies to ensure consistency and continuity across disciplines functions and settings. Participates in development and assessment of new programs; assesses market position and provides analysis for decision-making process; participates in the development of related business plans.
Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Considers age-specific and cultural needs of the patient populations served. Institutes practices processes and structures to promote a positive patient and family experience. Identifies patient and family needs and creates a culture that strives to meet or exceed needs and expectations by educating staff on the importance of quality customer services and best practices. Acts as a role model for staff in responding effectively to challenging situations or interactions. Maintains a continuous focus on quality safety and harm prevention; uses contemporary methods of quality improvement.
Effectively and continually communicates with the staff management and customers to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the success of employees department function and the organization. Provides effective labor and employee relations to promote employee-manager effectiveness and satisfaction in the workplace. Ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements and human resource policies. Creates employee ownership in their careers and success and provides staff with positive and actionable feedback to maximize the utilization and potential of the organization�s human resources.
Facilitates continuous performance improvement by encouraging innovation supporting reasonable risk-taking and maintaining openness to new ideas. Collaborates with human resources staff to identify needs and develop programs to provide for continuous development of Pediatric Patient Services.
Maintains expertise and learns of new developments in pediatric patient services and professional practice by participating in ongoing independent study education-related professional activities and affiliations.
Participates in or leads various committees tasks forces and quality improvement teams.

Other information:
EDUCATION
Bachelor�s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university; Master�s Degree in Nursing or a related field such as healthcare administration or its equivalent. Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in another state that participates in the original Nurse Licensure Compact.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Seven or more years of progressively more responsible related experience preferably gained in a similar diverse and operationally complex healthcare environment. Experience should demonstrate a very high level of written and verbal communication skills; ability to conceptualize develop and affect quality patient services effective leadership/management skills and commitment to continuous quality improvement. Thorough knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Rhode Island
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervisory responsibility for up to 225 FTEs.
