Major Responsibilities:
Directs the overall operations of the department. Provides security and accountability for all resources including controlled substances. Ensures services provided are safe and high quality. Ascertains that appropriate stakeholder needs are addressed, and expectations are met.Ensures pharmacy services align with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Ensures that accepted standards of practice as outlined by accrediting bodies, ASHP, USP, and ISMP are followed. Complies with all requirements of OSHA and the Department of Public Health.Partners with system and site teams to provide strategic direction. Analyzes problems and develops and implements solutions that enhance services provided. Monitors service levels and takes corrective action as appropriate.Directs resources, including team members and supplies, in an optimal manner. Recommends and institutes measures that result in cost effectiveness and efficiency in operation while ensuring safe, high quality care.Takes an active part in the quality management system. Promotes a culture of safety and continuous quality improvement by identifying safety and quality improvement opportunities and ensuring that opportunities identified are communicated, addressed, and improved.Executes on system initiatives including direct patient care initiatives, standard operating procedures, formulary management, and transitions of care partnerships. Partners to develop, monitor, and meet site and system goals. Intervenes as appropriate to ensure that goals remain on track and team members are knowledgeable of and accountable for their respective goals.Collaborates with teams across sites and disciplines to ensure best practice care is provided. Represents division in meetings and serves as a member on committees to actively promote department practice. Serves as a liaison with leadership, medical staff, nursing teams, patients, and other key stakeholders to develop and maintain strong working relationships.Monitors new developments in the field and promotes service line development and growth. Reviews new technology and patient care opportunities and maintains relationships with external sources in order to enhance services provided.Creates an environment that supports training, education, and research in the field.Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
