Responsibilities Job Summary The Pharmacy Services Director is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, implementing, delegating, supervising and evaluating operations related to Pharmaceutical Services in the hospital. The Pharmacy Services Director will develop and maintain pharmacy services in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations, and accepted standards. In addition, the Pharmacy Services Director assists the Pharmacy Services leadership in developing strategies across the healthcare system that provide safe, efficient and optimal medication management. Provides continuous quality improvement and solutions to daily challenges within the healthcare system. Serves as the Pharmacist in Charge with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy for their respective site. Provides an inclusive workplace that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork, and supports constructive resolution of conflicts. Treats sensitive or confidential information appropriately. Works to improve and reinforce performance of others. Oversight of policy and procedure pertaining to hiring, evaluation, discipline, and termination of employees. Assurance that all objectives and assignments given to department managers are completed on time and conform to applicable standards, rules, and regulations. Achievement of pharmacy productivity targets (Inpatient, Outpatient, and other functional areas), goals and performance metrics at the organization. Responsibility for executive leadership over pharmacy compliance related to Pharmacy Operations. Supports organizational residency program and is responsible for its effectiveness in training future pharmacy practitioner / leaders. Maintains a successful and highly collaborative relationship with schools of Pharmacy along with providing a high quality training environment for student pharmacists. Develop strategy and plans for recruitment, training, and workforce development in all Pharmacy Operations and Services at the facility level. Achievement of identified workforce metrics in all Pharmacy Operations and Services.. Ensure operational compliance with policies, procedures, systems, tools and communication strategies. Development of opportunities for the continued education and professional development of staff. Exceeds departmental and organizational goals and customer expectations. Makes decisions that produce high-quality results by applying knowledge, analyzing problems, and calculating risks. Delivers high-quality services and is committed to continuous improvement. Understands the overall financial performance of the organization and applies financial concepts and practices to establish and maintain realistic budgets. Uses financial information to monitor overall financial status of operations. Achieve budget objectives and targets for each pharmacy cost center at the facility. Provide executive leadership to seek out, promote and facilitate the rapid adoption and assimilation of best practices and innovations in service, work methods, technology, and operational systems which improve pharmacy service, quality and productivity in the region. Provide leadership to assure Workforce Planning and Leadership/Management Development programs are in place and to ensure an effective team necessary for the long term success of Pharmacy Services at the facility. Provide leadership and direction to assure compliance with Arizona Pharmacy law and regulations, pharmacy business practices, accreditation standards, and other institutional policies. Responsible for all financial targets and performance metrics. Develop and implement appropriate productivity management programs for each area of pharmacy practice. Be responsible for adherence with inventory management, drug procurement and drug distribution requirements, standards and regulations. Initiates and manages the change process, taking steps to remove barriers or accelerate its pace. Communicates a compelling vision and need for change that generates excitement, enthusiasm, and commitment to the process. Clearly communicates the direction, required performance, and challenges of change to all involved parties. Identifies and enlists the support of key individuals and groups to move the change forward. Obtains and provides resources to implement change initiatives. Serves as a role model by demonstrating commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in organizational performance. Responsible for directing pharmacy operations, strategies, policies and procedures, budget process, project implementations, human resource management and committee representation. The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for insuring compliance and other regulatory standards, implementing and monitoring financial controls to insure effective utilization of resources through budgeting and analysis of management reports, development of staff and services, as well as organizational performance improvement, quality management, evidence based outcome and setting the communication tone, values and culture of the health system. Collaboration with clinical leadership to develop drug use initiatives and assure appropriate use of pharmaceuticals. The Director will be responsible for the execution and consistent implementation of drug use initiatives and Pharmacy care management initiatives. Collaboration with leadership to develop initiatives, processes and tools. The Director will be responsible for the execution and consistent implementation of quality initiatives across all pharmacy practice settings at the facility. He or she will also be responsible for ensuring enforcement of all applicable policies, standards and regulations related to Medication Safety, Medication Management and AR&L (Accreditation, Regulatory and Licensing). Collaboration across Pharmacy system to ensure successful assessment, engagement, and implementation of best practice systems. Oversee the staff and ensure adequate staffing levels, inclusive of hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching and developing employees ensuring employee productivity, quality of work, and alignment of goals with our mission, vision, and values. Ensure compliance with all policies, financial stewardship by being accountable for the financial integrity around development and maintenance of department budget. Performs the role of the pharmacist as needed. The percent of time spent completing this function will depend on the hospital needs. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Required Experience 5 years of pharmacy practice experience Required 2 years of leadership/management experience in hospital practice Required Licenses and Certifications Pharmacy\RPH - Registered Pharmacist Current Arizona Pharmacist Licensure in good standing and issued by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy Required
