**The University Initiatives and Principal Giving team has an exciting opening for a Director of Principal Giving. This is a full-time, permanent position.**
The Director of Principal Giving will be responsible for the planning, strategy-setting and execution of activities in service of increasing principal-level philanthropic support for UW priorities, with a focus on securing gifts of $5M and more. The Director will focus on the strategic development of relationships and coordination of next steps with a portfolio of the University’s most philanthropic and high-capacity donors. Working collaboratively with many units across campus, the Director will be a key strategist, developing meaningful relationships and identifying opportunities for transformational giving.
**What You Will Do:** **Frontline Fundraising (50%)**
•Shape and manage a portfolio that develops powerful, life-long relationships between the UW and principal gift prospects.
•Facilitate the convening and collaboration of key stakeholders across all University programs and departments .
•Provide briefings, talking points and support for donor visits and events, including the University President, deans, faculty and volunteers. Prepare written proposals, endowment agreements, gift illustrations and other materials needed to secure gifts.
**Strategy Development (30%)**
•Design individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies for each prospective donor, in consultation with key stakeholders from across campus.
•Partner with University and academic leadership to design individual curated engagement opportunities that will cultivate and activate current and pipeline prospects with principal giving capacity.
•In collaboration with fundraising colleagues across the University, guide the development and management of strategies that promote philanthropic investment in schools, colleges, campuses, programs and priorities.
**Program Development and Management (15%)**
•Work closely with the Senior Director of Principal Giving to develop strategies, metrics and best practices that will drive principal level relationships and investment in the UW. Contribute to the annual planning process to maximize effectiveness of the principal giving fundraising efforts.
•Track steps and outcomes and regularly coordinate with frontline fundraisers to ensure that information is efficiently and effectively disseminated.
•Participate in the University’s prospect management and tracking system.
**Other duties as assigned (5%)** **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
A bachelor’s degree AND minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in development or advancement, with an emphasis on cultivating and soliciting top institutional prospects.
**Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **What You Bring:**
•Demonstrated experience in successfully soliciting principal level gifts, particularly complex gifts or gifts to multiple areas.
•Ability to communicate in a direct and professional manner that resolves differences. Significant capacity for diplomacy.
•Commitment to building trust-based, authentic relationships with prospects, donors and colleagues with a dedication to and patience for long-term, strategic goals that drive meaningful outcomes.
•Willingness to work behind the scenes, collaborate and partner with teams of colleagues centrally and in the academic units, and celebrate shared credit.
•Ability to provide leadership to staff and faculty across the institution. Ability to staff academic and Advancement leadership (president, provost, deans) on donor interactions, including personal visits. Ability to provide credible advice and counsel to colleagues and be an experienced resource for philanthropic strategies.
•Commitment to promoting effective principal giving practices in a matrixed university setting.
**What You Can Expect:**
•Cubicle/open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions.
•Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed, on short or limited notice.
•Frequent local travel.
