Director of Product Design
ImpactAs the Director of Product Design, Marketplace at Shipt, you will lead the strategic development and execution of design initiatives to shape and expand our Marketplace experience. In this high-impact role, you will define and implement a comprehensive design strategy that drives user satisfaction, business growth, and product innovation. You’ll serve as both a visionary leader and a hands-on contributor, guiding a talented team to deliver compelling, user-centered experiences that set Shipt apart in a competitive landscape.
You will be responsible for shaping the design culture within the Marketplace team, fostering an environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and professional growth. Your work will involve strategic oversight, tactical leadership, and deep involvement in the product design lifecycle—from research and ideation to execution and iteration.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

Define and advocate for a design vision: Establish and communicate a forward-looking vision for the Marketplace experience, creating a roadmap to deliver on this vision while aligning it with Shipt's broader goals.

Practice and evangelize customer-centric thinking: Champion a user-centered approach, ensuring that design decisions are grounded in customer insights, data, and empathy. Promote customer-focused methodologies throughout the organization.

Lead end-to-end user experience design: Oversee the user experience of product initiatives from conception to launch, collaborating closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, and UX Researchers to drive seamless execution.

Facilitate creative problem-solving: Encourage innovative solutions across cross-functional teams, enabling best-in-class thinking and integrating company-wide goals within the design process.

Clarify success metrics and tie design to business outcomes: Define and track key success metrics, linking design initiatives to business value. Mentor your team in aligning their work with Shipt’s strategic objectives.

Foster cross-functional relationships: Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Merchandising, and Operations teams, proactively seeking clarity and alignment to achieve shared goals.

Advocate for high-quality user experiences: Demonstrate an unrelenting commitment to quality, advocating for the design team and enhancing processes to ensure that products meet the highest standards.

Establish an operating model for team effectiveness: Develop and implement processes, tools, and workflows that enhance the team’s productivity and collaboration, driving continuous improvement.

Build a culture of excellence and inclusivity: Cultivate an environment that emphasizes growth, performance, and morale. Inspire and mentor a diverse team, fostering professional development and a shared commitment to excellence.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in product design, with at least 4+ years in team leadership and management roles.

A strong portfolio showcasing problem-solving at scale, high design caliber, and user-centered design principles.

Proven fluency in the latest product design trends, tools, and technologies across platforms, including expertise in design systems.

Mobile application design experience is required, with a deep understanding of responsive and adaptive design patterns.

Previous experience within e-commerce or marketplace environments is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated success in shaping product design strategies that influence company-wide initiatives and impact business growth.

Work Arrangement

Shipt considers candidates located near a Shipt office or workspace in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis to be hybrid, which means that they have the flexibility to work from home (with leader approval) or at a Shipt office in order to facilitate the ability to innovate, collaborate, and spark team connections. In-office expectations will vary by role and leader.  Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis. Employees will also be eligible to receive discretionary vacation for exempt team members, paid holidays throughout the calendar year and paid sick leave.  Other compensation includes eligibility for an annual bonus and the potential for restricted stock units based on role.

Pay range:

Metro Areas of Boston, District of Columbia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and New York City: 

$138,129-$276,364

All other locations:

$115,214-$230,321

Please note that the salary range above is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.
