Summary:
Reports to the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer. Provides strategic administrative analytical and leadership support to the ACNO and senior nursing leadership team related to nursing professional practice innovation and development. Based on understanding of regulatory requirements professional standards of excellence and continual analysis of results from clinical outcomes evaluation the Director anticipates and forecasts trends and oversees the development implementation and evaluation of educational strategies to maintain clinical excellence and achieve quality outcomes. Provides leadership for the Center for Professional Practice and Development to achieve the organization�s mission sustain high performance.
Responsibilities:
Organizes directs and evaluates nursing professional development and nursing practice activities within the Center for Professional Practice and Development that support effective transitions in practice and competency development. Facilitates academic practice integration Defines educational priorities based on organization and department strategic plan. Implements motivational strategies at the individual group program and organizational levels that support clinical inquiry innovation research and translation of evidence-based guidelines.
Advances professional nursing practice and supports strategic direction and goals of the Department of Nursing by driving Nursing Scholarship Research Evidence Based Practice and Nursing Quality related to the delivery of nursing care within the professional practice environment.
Leads efforts to develop implement evaluate and modify centralized professional development functions and programs including Nurse Residency program orientation (RNs CNAs and other nursing department team members) competency assessment (RNs CNAs and other nursing department team members) in-services continuing education career development and role transition research/scholarship and academic partnerships. Collaborates with nurse leaders from academia and nursing organizations to identify developmental needs of pre-licensure students thereby influencing curricula development. Collaborates with senior nursing leadership to support the education and preparation of nursing department team members to achieve external specialty accreditation and certification.
Responsible for the quality and standards compliance of both centralized and decentralized nursing professional development programming. Uses outcome measurements and outcome evaluation methods to drive nursing quality and process improvement. Advocates for a healthy work and professional practice environment. Develops assessment process to determine learning needs.
Supports the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer and other senior nursing leaders in development and evaluation of the department�s strategic and quality plans. Collaborates with internal and system-wide senior nursing leaders in coordinating initiatives to support quality nursing research evidence-based practice and professional nursing standards.
Facilitates innovation by driving quality improvement projects through application of evidence-based guidelines and translation of research.
Interviews hires schedules supervises counsels and evaluates department staff; responsible for professional development of staff.
Develops recommends implements and monitors capital and operating budgets. Recommends and purchases educational equipment. Establishes a system of budget control utilizing principles of cost containment.
Establishes and maintains departmental records and reports; ensures proper documentation of educational activities as regulated by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and other regulatory agencies.
Acts as liaison with other departments outside agencies and Schools of Nursing to promote effective planning and coordination of educational activities. Leads and facilitates the coordination of student placements collaborating with the nursing leadership team as appropriate.
Ensures all activities support established clinical standards of care meet or exceed patient care quality standards are in compliance with various regulatory agencies and consider age-specific needs of the patient populations served.
Collaborates with human resources development staff to identify needs and develop programs to provide for continuous development of staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION:
Master�s degree in nursing required; Certification in specialty area recommended (Nurse Executive and/or Professional Development). Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Massachusetts.
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE:
Five years of progressively more responsible related experience preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex healthcare environment. Experience should demonstrate a very high level of written and oral communication skills; ability to conceptualize develop and effect quality nursing education; nursing research; effective leadership/management skills and commitment to continuous quality improvement.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervision includes hiring evaluating and recommendation/administration of personnel actions.
