Director of Project Management

Cleaver Brooks is looking for a Director of Project Management to join our team in Lincoln, NE. The Director of Project Management is responsible for directing, managing, coordinating the customer interface and for directing and managing the various functional department activities to ensure that projects are executed on schedule and within the cost budget. Manage the risks (particularly commercial risks) associated with the projects professionally and ensure that the customer is satisfied with the product supplied.

Essential functions:

Must possess leadership capability – ability to understand the motives and objectives of the Plant and communication/interpersonal skills to effectively carry out responsibilities and to develop and motivate others. Serves as a member of the Plant’s Operating Management Team: contributes through exercise of functional expertise, counsel, experience, etc., toward the plant meeting its current and long range business strategies and plans. Must provide effective management of subordinates to achieve desired results. Attributes necessary to meet this need may include communications, motivation, team building, employee involvement, diplomacy, delegating, etc. skills as well as confidence and enthusiasm. Set up systems and procedures to monitor project progress and budget compliance. Review project documentation for completeness and concerns, during the hand-off phase from sales. Resolve any issues and kick-off the project. Establish and manage the customer interface from project kick-off to completion to ensure customer satisfaction. Develop a project shell plan, work with functional departments such as engineering, manufacturing, quality and procurement to finalize the plan Review the contract and PMU cost estimate and work with finance and sales to ensure that all risks were identified and a reliable current project cost estimate is available to the team. Monitor and ensure that the team executes to the project plan and to the cost budget. On any deviation from schedule or budget, get the right people involved in resolving issues and get the project back on schedule and budget. Actively participate in design review, pre-fabrication meetings and production meeting to ensure all customer requirements and specifications are met. Prepare interim and final project reports for goals, margin levels, and improvements with root cause analysis and present to management. Actively manage the risks / rewards for the company by avoiding taking on responsibilities outside the contract and by ensuring fair compensation for work performed. Work with manufacturing on make / buy decisions and monitor IFS status of purchased components are on schedule to support the project schedule. Work with service to ensure the project is commissioned and handed over to the customer in a timely manner. Work with finance to ensure that invoicing and payments are timely. Review contract language and work with legal as needed to resolve any disputes. Ensure that all project activities comply with ISO 9001 standards and procedures, acceptable industry standards and company policies and procedures. Ensures Project Managers are supervised and mentored. Reviews subordinates’ progress and evaluates results of their work. Must have the ability to travel – generally by air or car – extensively, both domestic and international. Includes ability to handle luggage and attaché cases, etc. normal to business travel. All other duties as assigned.

Resolve controversy where practices and procedures and/or methods do not provide precise direction as to desired outcomes. Help establish priorities within other departments to support project deliverables.

Work with customers to develop win-win scenarios.

Basic Requirements:

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or other related field preferred. Associates Degree in Engineering or related field plus equivalent related experience may be substituted.

Experience: 

Five years or more in project management related to mechanical engineering, manufacturing or construction preferred. MRP/ERP and MS Project experience preferred.

Physical Skill & Effort: Limited manual dexterity required. Work requires infrequent physical effort. Must be able to access all parts of the boiler to examine boiler design in production, including climbing ladders, enter confined spaces and use proper PPE, including harnesses when over 6 feet off the ground.

Working Conditions and Hazards:  Normal plant, shop, field or office conditions. From time to time, slightly disagreeable features. Negligible/little or no exposure.
