Job Description
The Purchasing Director is responsible for organizing and managing the Purchasing Department to the highest professional standards. The Purchasing Director represents the hotel to its suppliers. The Purchasing Department provides the procurement services of the hotel and ancillary departments, including product research and negotiations. Purchasing records are maintained ensuring proper documentation and useful historical data.
Essential duties and responsibilities – (Key activities) • Purchasing Director is fully responsible for the efficient and cost-effective administration of the Purchasing Department and Storerooms. • Makes recommendations and suggestions of improvements and cost savings to the Director Finance and Business Partner and Managing Director. • Maintains strong relationships with an established and frequently updated local preferred supplier list, including negotiating best price, quality and payment terms. • Reviews and negotiates purchase agreements. Research new sources, recommends changes to product sourcing as applicable. • Conducts market survey with Cost Controller and Chef, completes analysis and comparison. • Secures at least three quotations for all items, especially high-cost items • Controls purchasing procedures and ensures timely delivery. • Prioritizes the purchasing efforts, reviews agreements, searches for new suppliers, recommends change of products, secures samples of new items, checks background of new suppliers including their performance track record. • Establishes consistent product specifications with the operating departments for all locally purchased products and services. • Purchase HEOS and furniture, fixtures, and equipment as required for various assigned projects on time and on budget. • Reviews and issues purchase orders which are duly approved to suppliers. • Assists in controlling and reducing inventories by using proper purchasing procedures.
Other standard responsibilities• Supervise purchasing staff within the Purchasing office. • Complies to the company policies. • Works within all pre-set budgetary limits. • Develops and updates policies and manuals, as related to the division/department, for implementation in the field, while ensuring compliance to the same for consistency across the group. • Actively participates in and leads recruitment and talent development for the division/department, to meet both current and future needs • Is a “brand ambassador” at all times and ensures brand integrity and clarity are always maintained. • Models the company’s culture, vision, mission and core values at all times. • Adopts a local purchasing policy where possible.

Qualifications • High school graduate
Experience • Excellent communication skills in English, conversational Arabic would be advantageous • Extensive knowledge of local market and vendors and procurement operations • At least 5 years of experience in Hotel/Restaurant operations is required. • At least 2 years’ working experience in a luxury-international class hotel
