Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) has a Director of Service/Chief, Obstetrics and Gynecology opportunity with NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem.  Harlem Hospital is located on 135th Street in Manhattan and has been certified as a Baby-Friendly hospital by the World Health Organization. The OBGYN service has 24-hour OBGYN Anesthesia, with five birthing suites, a 17-bed inpatient unit, plus 5 Triage beds. Harlem Hospital features a da Vinci Robot and a full GYN service, which includes minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, urogynecology, an active robotic surgical service, and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  On average, the OBGYN service has 800 births annually. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Responsibilities

The Chief of Service, OBGYN will serve as a dynamic leader to oversee the expansion of the Department, address the health needs of the community, and grow the clinical services offered.

Administrative Expectations & Team BuildingEstablish and promote the vision for the Department of OBGYN.Ensure a culture of open dialogue with all staff, promote healthy team norms, and develop pathways to support staff and promote wellness.Active involvement in faculty recruitment, selection, and mentorship.Ensure a culture of diversity and inclusion within the Department of OBGYN. Identify and address areas of inequity by promoting activities that build awareness and acceptance of all individuals.Communication/Change Management Expectations Establish appropriate communication channels with clinicians and administration that result in trust, alignment, and collaborative working relationships that results in patient access to resources. Establish open and non-judgmental dialogue, expect a culture of diversity and inclusiveness, welcome constructive criticism from direct reports, admit errors openly, avoid a punitive response to honest mistakes, demonstrate timely responsiveness, and hold others accountable. Coach, mentor, and develop others to build internal capabilities and the talent that facilitates succession. Clinical Quality Review and SupervisionProvide leadership and disseminate practice standards and accountabilities to non-physician OBGYN staff, physicians, residents and medical students. Promote and oversee development of standard work and adoption of practice guidelines that promote quality, cost-effective care for the patient population. Ensure that appropriate quality improvement standards and metrics for the OBGYN Department are established, maintained and reported. Encourage clinical quality initiatives are focused on improving the patient experience, patient safety clinical outcomes, enhancing systems to assure timeliness and efficiency, and assuring quality while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Complete ongoing professional evaluations of individuals within the Department.Clinical Expectations Clinical coverage will be assigned according to the expertise of the candidate and may include a combination of OBGYN clinical areas such as outpatient practice, inpatient, labor and delivery, and/or GYN surgery.Responsibilities will include precepting/mentoring of attendings, teaching of medical students, collaboration with midwives, physician assistants and nurse practitioners.Call coverage will include in house call requirement monthly.Call coverage may include back up call according to clinical expertise. Qualifications Board Certification in General Obstetrics and Gynecology and/or OB/GYN sub-specialtyMinimum 10 years post-residency clinical and administrative experienceMinimum 5 years of leadership and managerial experience with personnel, finance, quality and clinical resource managementProven track record of clinical/academic productivityA track record of delivering strong results in mission-driven organizations – preferably those serving vulnerable and ethnically diverse populationsA history of successful mentorship of colleagues and/or junior faculty in clinical care, research, scholarly work, or educationAttention and focus on maximizing cost effective care delivery and money-saving initiatives while maintaining quality and access to careAdvocacy for marginalized populations including volunteerism, regional/national speaking engagements, research/scholarly activity, or notable outstanding experience with these populations in direct clinical care

 

Wages and Benefits include:

Annual Base Salary: $450,000* (board certified) based on 40-hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.

The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $676,850** (board certified), which includes the baseline salary, fringe benefits, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors as set forth below:

Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $67,600***.Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year’s average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement.Generous Annual Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation, Sick, Holiday, and CME days.Medical, Prescription, and Dental Coverage: Top-tier plans with employee contributions significantly below market rates.Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Coverage: Equal to 2x your salary (up to a maximum of $300,000) provided at no cost to you.Additional employee-paid Voluntary Life and AD&D coverage is available for you and your family.Loan Forgiveness: Position may be eligible for loan forgiveness through certain state or federal programs.Medical Malpractice Coverage (equivalent to occurrence-based): Provided at no cost to the employee.Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).Pre-tax employee-paid contributions for commuting expenses.
