Location Northwest Department NW Student Accessibility Resources Job Summary Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Accessibility Resources is responsible for coordinating and implementing services and accommodations for students with disabilities at the college. This includes working with students to determine appropriate accommodations, collaborating with faculty and staff to implement those accommodations, and promoting a culture of accessibility on campus. The director will also serve as a resource for students, faculty, and staff on disability-related issues, and will work to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations related to disability rights. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Essential Performance Requirements* Evaluates students’ medical and educational documentation to establish eligibility for departmental services; provides guidance and support to active and prospective students to discuss how to obtain and reasonably and effectively use accommodations Serves as a resource for students, faculty, and staff on disability-related issues and concerns, including determining student referrals to campus resources Educates students in self-advocacy to help implement reasonable accommodations; monitors progress via case management of TCC students with disabilities Works with faculty and staff to ensure that course materials and classrooms are accessible to all students, including the coordination and implementation of assistive technology, alternative testing arrangements, and interpreting services Promotes a culture of accessibility on campus and advocates for the rights and needs of students with disabilities at the college and in the community; serves on campus, district, and community committees, mediates crisis situations, and promotes awareness of department programs for students with disabilities Ensures compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations related to disability rights, including the development, revision, and implementation of policies, procedures, and protocols related to disability services and accommodations Provides training and professional development to faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders on disability-related issues and best practices for supporting students with disabilities Maintains accurate and confidential records related to disability services and accommodations; gathers and reports data for annual and special studies reporting Works with external agencies and organizations to coordinate services and resources for students with disabilities


General Supervision and Management Provides strategic direction and makes budgetary decisions for the department Supervises, assigns work to, and evaluates professionals, support staff, and student workers
Service Excellence Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC) Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Supervision Works under the general supervision of the Vice President of Student Affairs

Required Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Six (6) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements Two (2) years’ experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others) Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree Degree in Disability Studies, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Developmental Education, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, or a related area At least one year’s working experience performing the essential performance requirements in a higher education environment At least one year’s working experience collaborating with community agencies and organizations that provide disability support services Bilingual in English and Spanish in both written and verbal communications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and all applicable State and Federal disability statutes, as well as current related literature and legal cases in post-secondary education Knowledge of best practices as defined by the Association of Higher Education on Disability, the Commission on Rehabilitation Counseling, the American Counseling Association, and any state Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board Knowledge of testing and measurements; including interpreting diagnostic assessments and documentation of cognitive, psychiatric, and medical disorders and their impact on the provision of services to college students with disabilities Knowledge of functional limitations of disabilities, their effect(s), understanding their academic impact, and the determination of the appropriate accommodations(s) Knowledge of assistive technology and other disability-related resources Skilled in excellent customer service, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal relations Skilled in using computer applications and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office suite Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables Physical Demands and Work Environment Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
