**POSITION DETAILS**
In collaboration with eight of CUNY’s senior campuses, Macaulay Honors College (MHC) provides the most promising undergraduate students with an elite academic program of interdisciplinary seminars, personalized advisement, and experiential learning supported by dedicated funding for study abroad, internships, and research. With an entering class of approximately 550 students distributed on campuses across the five boroughs of New York City, Macaulay’s student body embraces the diversity of New York and represents the best and brightest of our next generation of leaders.
The Director of Student Development reports to the Associate Dean for Student Services and Engagement. They oversee the co-curricular and extracurricular programming, student activities, and large-scale events for the College. The Director will provide a full complement of student engagement opportunities, student leadership development, DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging) activities, and service-learning opportunities to enhance the honors educational experience of the students.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Serves as principal advisor to the Associate Dean for Student Services and Engagement on all matters related to student development, and student clubs.
- Directly supervises the professional and student staff within the Office of Student Development. This currently includes an Assistant Director of Student Development, the Student Development Coordinator, the Program Coordinator for The Restorative Justice Program, as well as a large cohort of student roles (Orientation Leaders / Peer Mentors, Student Lounge Volunteers, Student Life Intern, Orientation Intern, etc.).
- Represents the College in a range of campus-wide and university-wide groups and councils as assigned by the Associate Dean.
- Creates and implements programming aimed at engaging students, developing student leaders, and increasing the number of students involved at the College.
- Creates, develops, and facilitates services and events to ensure the College has a range of programs, events and support services for students from under-represented groups.
- Works closely with other staff to provide support and guidance to student organizations and student leaders;
- Oversees and/or participates in major College programs with direct oversight for new student orientation.
- Serves as the College student conduct officer to schedule and coordinate meetings, interviews, appointments. Works to ensure that students are aware of their CUNY student rights and responsibilities.
- Provides direction, guidance, and oversight to student clubs and organizations include the annual club registration / recognition process and club compliance with CUNY policies.
- Develops initiatives with student organizations, administrative and academic offices to provide a rich array of student programming and events;
- Assists in developing and administering the annual budget for Student Development.
- Provides direct oversight to Club Macaulay (campus groups software).
- Serves as an active member of the Student Support Team (Macaulay’s CARE Team).
All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 70% of their work time. For full-time staff, this is equivalent to 7 out of 10 days of in-person work in a two-week period (e.g., 7 days in-person, 3 days remote). This hybrid work schedule is subject to change.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Bachelor's degree and eight years related experience required.
A preferred candidate should have:
- Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Development, or related field and a record of progressive and significant administrative experience at the collegiate level.
- Ability to take initiative, use sound judgment to make decisions, and resolve problems diplomatically and discretely.
- Ability to work effectively with a very diverse student body and be able to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, faculty, and a wide variety of campus departments.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities, manage multiple demands, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication, presentation and networking skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with academic departments, administrators and faculty members to administer services for students.
- Intermediate or advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Must be able to work some evenings and weekend as requested by the Associate Dean.

- Collaborates with academic affairs professionals and other in supporting retention and building a comprehensive learning environment that fosters the intellectual, psychological, social, leadership and recreational development of a diverse student population
- Assists senior management in providing leadership, developing policy, conducting strategic planning, and representing student affairs in various professional activities
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the portfolio of student services in supporting divisional and College-wide goals; oversees data collection, tracking, and reporting systems
- Manages fiscal and human resources; may oversee grant management activities for selected programs
- Performs related duties as assigned.

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**
$111,560-$119,995/year. Salary range will increase to $122,201 - $131,440 as of 9/1/25 per the new contract. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
