Summary
Director of Subcontracts and Strategic Sourcing will lead procurement and supply chain strategies for the Loitering Munitions segment. This role is critical in ensuring the compliant and efficient sourcing, negotiation, and management of subcontractors and suppliers for advanced munitions systems. The Director will develop and execute sourcing strategies, manage supplier relationships, and ensure compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFARS).
Position Responsibilities
Develop and execute sourcing strategies for mission-critical loitering munitions components, ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery.
Identify and qualify suppliers capable of supporting AeroVironment’s requirements for advanced munitions, including propulsion systems, warheads, guidance systems, and electronic subsystems.
Manage supplier risk, capacity, and performance to ensure resilient and scalable supply chain operations.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field
12+ years of experience in subcontracts, procurement, or strategic sourcing in the defense/aerospace industry.
Min 5 years’ experience in a people leadership role
Deep expertise in ITAR, DFARS, and FAR, with a proven track record of managing subcontracts for controlled munitions.
Experience sourcing and supplying components for munition systems, including warheads, fuses, guidance systems, and propulsion technologies.
Strong negotiation, supplier development, and contract management skills.
Ability to analyze supply chain risks and develop mitigation strategies for critical defense technologies.
Active or ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance is required.
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
Master degree preferred
CPSM/CPCM certification preferred.
Deep expertise in ITAR, DFARS, and FAR, with a proven track record of managing subcontracts for controlled munitions.
Experience sourcing and supplying components for munition systems, including warheads, fuses, guidance systems, and propulsion technologies.
Strong negotiation, supplier development, and contract management skills.
Ability to analyze supply chain risks and develop mitigation strategies for critical defense technologies.
Active or ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance is required.

Special Requirements
U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) or asylee/refugee status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) required.
Occasionally may be required to travel within the Continental U.S.
The salary range for this role is:
$165,580 - $234,465AeroVironment considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the location, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
ITAR Requirement:
This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR, or a person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction. Please understand that any job offer that requires approval of an export license will be conditional on AeroVironment’s determination that it will be able to obtain an export license in a time frame consistent with AeroVironment’s business requirements. A “U.S. person” according to the ITAR definition is a U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or protected individual such as a refugee or asylee. See 22 CFR § 120.15. Some positions will require current U.S. Citizenship due to contract requirements.
