Director of Systems Engineering

Aplin has partnered with an Edmonton-based client to recruit a Director of Systems Engineer. The Director of Systems Engineering leads the strategic planning, development, and implementation of the company’s systems infrastructure. This role requires technical expertise, strategic vision, and strong leadership to ensure seamless operations and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate brings solid Agile experience.
Key responsibilities include managing high-stakes projects, aligning technical capabilities with business goals, and fostering innovation. The Director will drive technical excellence by adopting emerging technologies, optimizing processes, and ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
Additionally, they will develop engineering talent, promote best practices, and manage budgets effectively.

Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning – Develop and execute long-term systems engineering strategies aligned with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and industry standards in financial services.Team Leadership – Lead, mentor, and foster a collaborative, innovative environment for developers and systems engineers to enhance system performance and reliability.Project Management – Oversee complex projects, ensuring timely completion, budget adherence, and compliance with quality and security standards.Systems Design & Integration – Ensure system development and integration meet financial industry regulations, business needs, and efficiency goals.Stakeholder Communication – Partner with internal teams and external stakeholders to align systems engineering solutions with business objectives.Process Improvement – Continuously refine engineering processes to boost efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance reliability and security.Risk Management – Identify and mitigate security and compliance risks in projects.Technical Guidance – Provide expert insights on best practices, regulatory compliance, and industry trends.Budget Management – Oversee the systems engineering budget, ensuring strategic and efficient resource allocation.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.A master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is an asset.Proven experience in a senior level Systems Engineer role or similar.5+ Years experience in a management role.Deep knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices.Proficiency in designing and managing complex systems.Strong ability to lead and mentor a team.Strong strategic planning and project management skills.Relevant certifications such as Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CEEP) is an asset.
