Director of the Undergraduate Laboratory + Job Number: 25008 + Functional Area: Academic (non-faculty) + Department: Chemistry + School Area: Science + Employment Type: Full-Time + Employment Category: Exempt + Visa Sponsorship Available: No + Schedule: Email a Friend Save Save Apply Now Posting Description DIRECTOR OF UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING LABORATORY, Chemistry, to hold direct responsibility for management and operation of the laboratory associated with all Chemistry laboratory courses; contribute to the educational mission through course management, collaborating with faculty, the Associate Department Head to research and with the Instructor for non-major chemistry subjects to develop new laboratory experiments and curriculum; teach undergraduates and oversee graduate student teaching fellows; work in conjunction with the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator to enforce chemical and biological safety practices and procedures; supervise or perform preparation, calibration, operation, maintenance and demonstration of multiple analytical instruments using in laboratory subjects; follow departmental budget guidelines for purchasing and prepare cost analyses for the UGTL and all courses; orchestrate purchasing of new equipment and instrumentation including consultation with vendor representatives and comparative cost analyses; supervise Technical Associate UGTL staff member; and be committed to undergraduate education and advancing the education mission of the UGTL. Find a full job description here: https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:US:5643178c-0392-4440-82dc-b602bd618353 Job Requirements REQUIRED: PhD degree in Chemistry or closely related field of study; a minimum of three years of experience operating or overseeing a chemical education laboratory; competence in all core areas of experimental chemistry including organic, inorganic, physical and biological chemistry; administrative experience in one or more chemical education settings; strong organizational, written and communication skills; ability to set goals, assess, and act on work priorities; ability to interact well with Department of Chemistry faculty, staff, and students, with Institute personnel, and with outside vendor sales technical representatives; experience in the use of standard computer software used in administering a laboratory environment, including word processors, spreadsheets, and educational course management systems; experience in chemicals handling and preparative techniques; knowledge of laboratory safety regulations, practices, and procedures; and experience in the operation of complex instrumental analysis software and computers.
