The Director of Transportation is responsible for the delivery expense for their division. They will co-ordinate with local operations and fleet partners to ensure business needs are met and that the cost to move vehicles intra-pool is minimized. They will be responsible for growing the intra-pool transportation network, reduce total labor expense and improve productivity. They will also lead the logistics team for their respective area.
The starting salary for this role is $105k; commensurate with experience.
A Day in the Life:
The Director of Transportation will be responsible for intra-pool logistics for their respective region. The position is based in the field and travel will be required (up to 40%). They will own the development and implementation of processes that drive improved transportation KPIs, create and monitor safety compliance, improve transporter productivity and reduce the cycle time between for deliveries. They will also be responsible for auditing invoices for accuracy and gaining a full understanding of why and how vehicles are moved. They will report into the Sr Director of Logistics.
What You’ll Do:
· Develop a drive away network to supplement in house drivers for intra-pool moves
· Create, monitor and report out on regional/pool cycle time data metrics
· Manage, train and hire transportation team for respective area
· Develop tools for logistics planning for intra-pool moves
· Ensure compliance on all safety protocols for the driver network
· Work closely with fleet operations off lot flow and intra-business unit logistics
· Establish steady state of part time drivers per location and scale with outsourced labor seasonally. Identify, document, and implement opportunities for continuous improvement
· Deep dive all transportation purchase orders/ transportation data for accuracy and to gain insights for improvements
· Streamline standard work for intra-pool transportation
· Design, implement, and maintain processes to reduce costs, reduce cycle time, improve productivity and drive utilization.
· Develop, implement, and monitor department budget; manage expenses within approved budget constraints
· Negotiate with external transportation vendors
What We’re Looking For:
· 5 years’ experience in logistics or supply chain
· Bachelor’s in Business Management, Supply Chain, or like field required
· Moderate proficiency in [Transportation Management, Microsoft Office, Supplier Negotiations, EAM, Super Dispatch]
