FLSA Status: Full Time - exempt
Reports to: Divisional Youth & Candidates’ Secretary

Rate of Pay: $75000 to $82000 per year

Relocation expenses (Relocation assistances may be available if needed):

Housing Vehicle allowance  cellphone allowance of $100 per month  up to $7,000 moving expense

SCOPE OF POSITION/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Director of Youth Ministries Position is responsible for the Youth Program, Candidates and Evangelistic work of the Division.

They will adhere to the standards and Orders and Regulations of The Salvation Army in a manner that is both ethical and economical. The director is expected to be an example of Salvationism and Christian stewardship and to demonstrate interest in the spiritual well-being of the young people of the division.

The Director shall conduct all activities of the office with a view to accomplishing The Salvation Army’s stated mission “to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination”.

The Director of Youth Ministries will give encouragement, support, and resources to all corps, units and institutions in the Division.  This will be accomplished through personal involvement and also through the supervision and coordination of the youth and family programs sections of the division.  Coordination, cooperation, encouragement and support will characterize the service of the Youth Department.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Youth Ministries is responsible to promote The Salvation Army’s primary work of soul winning, increased effectiveness of operation, development and expansion of youth and family programs and candidates for the College for Officer’s Training. They are expected to be an active soldier of their corps, when out-of-town appointments do not prevent. They will participate in corps meetings throughout the Division whenever possible. The Director of Youth Ministries will work between members of the Divisional staff and the various departments. They shares the responsibility for the spiritual welfare of officers, junior and senior soldiers, for their loyalty to the principles of The Salvation Army and their observance of its Rules and Regulations. They will assist the DYS in providing candidate forms and his/her evaluations/opinion of the present ability and future potential of the officers.

 

PROGRAM

They will work with the DYS in the responsibilities for and give oversight to:

Sunday School Corps Cadets Sunbeams Girl Guards Adventure Corps Day Camp Vacation Bible School High Peak & Aspen Alley Camping Programs Supervisor to Camp Caretaker Supervisor to Youth Specialist Supervisor to Camp Contracts Supervisor to Summer Camp Staff Supervisor to Camp staff PTM, First-Aid, and ACA training and procedures Youth Seekers Young Adult Fellowship and Bible Study Leadership Training Teen Groups (YPL) Youth Rallies Family Camp – Youth Programs FOF (Future Officer Fellowship) Youth Program Statistics Candidates Echelon Planning and executing DYR (Divisional Youth Retreat) Moonbeams

 

SPECIFIC PROGRAM DUTIES:

Be directly accountable to the DYS for all the Program Sections assigned to the Youth Department. Visit corps, units and institutions provide program support and encouragement. Encourage creative planning in each corps, unit and institution, providing leadership from DHQ. Program aids and consultation will be available to assist local corps/units officers in establishing goals and maintaining standards. Monitor each corps, unit and institution to ensure Youth Activities progress toward established goals and be available to assist where progress is not evident. Monitor and assist in training and equipping each section, ensuring practical, balanced and adequate program of resources available from DHQ to meet the developmental needs of corps, unit and institution. Assist in recruitment and placement of employee personnel, personnel in the Youth Department, summer camp personnel and personnel in corps/units. Monitor and hold each section of the DHQ Youth Department accountable for reports, reviews, fiscal, property management, budgets and evaluations as may be required. Establish, organize and conduct Youth Department staff meetings as appropriate to ensure clear, consistent communication. The Director of Youth Ministries will work with the DYCS and DSP to develop and execute the annual Family Camp with assistance from staff and officers. Help in planning and execution of child-care for all Divisional Events as required, working with DYCS and DSP. The proposed schedule and plans will be shared with the Divisional Leaders before implementation. 

 

DIVISIONAL HEADQUARTERS OFFICE MANAGEMENT

The Director of Youth Ministries will work with the DYS to create harmony and a good work environment as it relates to employees and the efficiency of Divisional Headquarters.  The Director of Youth Ministries is responsible for the employees and efficiency of all Youth and Camp Sections.

 

CANDIDATES

The Director of Youth Ministries will assist the DYS in working with other Divisional staff members and has a personal responsibility to discover and secure young men and women of character, ability, and Christian devotion, encouraging them toward officership. The DYCS is the Chair of the Divisional Candidates’ Council and is required to interview each candidate and complete an interview form for the case. The Director of Youth Ministries will assist the DYS in the interviews and completion of the candidate(s) case.

 

CORRESPONDENCE

Courtesy and consideration should mark all correspondence in writing to officers of the Division.  Careful thought should be given to the subject matter, the tone, and manner of approach. Encouragement and commendation should accompany the satisfactory transaction of business.

 

COMMAND FINANCE COUNCIL

The Director of Youth Ministries will work along side the DYCS as a member of the Command Finance Council and will be prepared to present all items relating to Divisional Youth responsibilities and others as needed.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Assist in any other duties as requested to maintain a consistently high level of efficiency in the operation of the Divisional Events.

Will use basic office equipment such as computers, multi-line phone system, photocopiers, scanners, etc. Familiarity with basic sound equipment set up and use.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol and organizational structure. Good working knowledge of The Salvation Army, and particularly a thorough understanding of Salvation Army scouting programs. Salvation Army Soldiership required. Ability to teach and train leaders Must have ability to work well independently in a detailed, professional and courteous manner. Personal relationship and commitment to Jesus Christ and the ability to share the Gospel. Experience in leading people and the ability to work well with staff, the public and the children we serve. Experience hiring, supervising, and supporting staff and volunteers. Ability to make scheduling assignments and order supplies and equipment.

 

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word and Lotus Notes) – with particular skill in Graphics such as desktop publishing and web design ability.  Experience and skill with Media Shout and Adobe Creative Suite. Significant program, media, and marketing tools and planning skills required.
