Director-Optimization & Hedging (Terminals)

Position Description

Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers’ storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs.  Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.

Primary Purpose:

This is a new role created to centralize the management of gains relative to budgeting, forecasting, RINs, purchasing, hedging, means/timing of monetization, etc. to drive better reporting transparency and consistency.  This role will be responsible for promoting "best practice" across the network and encourage growth/optimization in our gains-related activities and endeavors.

Primary Responsibilities:

Budgeting and Forecasting responsibility for Business Unit’s annual product gains bookLead (and coordinate financial reporting for) physical sale / price and timing optimization / monetization efforts across gains portfolioLead (and coordinate financial reporting for) RIN purchasing activities where applicableLead (and coordinate financial reporting for) hedging activities across the network, including in connection with the gains portfolio, forward physical diesel purchases, natural gas, and powerEvaluate / pursue opportunities (1) to optimize existing gains portfolio (piping to PBOB, ethanol metering, etc.) and (2) to identify and correct issues where unexpected and/or asymmetric losses are occurringEvaluate / pursue opportunities to expand gains portfolio, including but not limited to additional rack butane blending system installations, future ET rack butane blending takeovers, VCU-to-VRU conversionsIdentify situations where there are opportunities to improve accuracy of measurement and reporting across our terminal networkIdentify improved and incremental value-added opportunities to increase revenue (i.e. improved steam tracking and invoicing, etc.)Supervise and direct work for one Analyst on the teamOther miscellaneous, ad hoc special projects, tasks, and optimization requests as required from time to time

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements are as follows:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree (required); studies in Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, or Finance, or related field of study.

Experience, Skills & Knowledge:

Ten (10) years’ experience in the energy industry, with specific experience in product marketing, trading, and/or optimizationMust possess basic understanding of finance and accounting principlesMust be able to analyze all aspects of a Terminals business arrangement (technical, financial, contractual, legal, operations)Must have well developed oral and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skillsMust have the ability to influence without authority by working with a wide variety of people, internally and externally, with tact, courtesy and professionalism while driving for positive resultsOrganizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essentialMust be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutionsMust be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or directionMust be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agenciesWillingness to travel, as needed
