Position Objective:
Administers and directs the overall clinical and operational aspects of the Pharmacy Department, including acute care, outpatient infusion, behavioral health, employee/bedside dispense, and ambulatory practice. Promotes, on a daily basis, the Vision, Mission and Values of Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Directs the purchase, inventory control, storage and distribution of all pharmaceuticals throughout the hospital in compliance with all State laws, Federal laws, and other regulatory bodies. Establishes methods of storage of medications that meets the above compliance while ensuring timely access of medications to caregivers for administration to patients.Develops and maintains a total quality management / process improvement program relative to the organizational and department missions. Evaluates pharmacy functions, practices, reporting mechanisms, record keeping and drug control for opportunities to improve quality and productivity. Introduces and demonstrates new technologies, care modalities, equipment and research findings to the organization and pharmacy staff members, as appropriate.Interacts regularly with Medical and Nursing staff regarding pharmaceutical care and pharmacy operational issues. Serves as a member of, and provides leadership and staff support to, hospital committees including, but not limited to, the Hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Is responsible to ensure the proper labeling, storage and distribution of investigational drugs pursuant to the order of the investigators.Oversees control of drug purchasing expense by soliciting bid prices for non-contract items, utilizing purchasing agreements provided by entities such as Group Purchasing Organizations, managing on-hand inventories, and minimizing expired medication losses.Ensures appropriate supervision and quality/safety measures to establish sterile a compounding environment that meets regulatory standards and provides for the preparation of quality compounded sterile pharmaceutical products.Oversees functional operations, quality assurance, and customer satisfaction of all Pharmacy operations including Inpatient Pharmacies, Outpatient Intravenous Therapy Pharmacy, Employee/Discharge Pharmacy, Anticoagulation Clinic and other Pharmacy programs. Works to advance the Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Care to improve medication utilization and medication-related patient outcomes across the organization.Works with the Medical Staff to sustain a formulary system and assure drug utilization that provides safe/effective medication needs to patients while minimizing medication expense to the organization.Controls narcotic and all other Controlled Substances, as defined by State of Maryland and the US Drug Enforcement Agency, by establishing proper records for ordering, receipt, issuance, patient administration, reporting, and destruction in accordance with State and Federal laws.Encourages career/practice development through such strategies as in-service education, career development, certification programs, and attendance/participation in outside conferences.Works to attain and/or retain accreditation for the departmental and organizational accreditation programs.Educational/Experience Requirements:
The minimum level of education and experience for this position includes:
Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred, or a Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).A minimum of eight years of administrative pharmacy experience with increasingly complex management experience, leadership, analytical, conceptual and interpersonal skills to provide direction to staff., including superior management skills in directing and supervising professional and management staff and clinical pharmacy program.Highly proficient knowledge of health care management, administrative and operational principles and practices including budgeting, Joint Commission standards, regulations and laws pertaining to procurement and dispensing of drugs/narcotics.Highly proficient knowledge of therapeutic pharmacology and pharmacokinetics, state and federal pharmacy law principles, practices and procedures; mathematics and statistics, chemistry and personal computer/patient/drug information systems.Required License/Certifications:
Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy.Active membership in the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and affiliated state chapter.Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
