DIRECTOR, SAFEY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND SECURITY (SHES)\n

The Director, Safety, Health, Environment and Security (SHES) is responsible to lead the execution of Austin Powder's U.S. and Canadian safety management systems and programs. Responsibility to ensure compliance and security standards and procedures consistent with corporate needs within its 60 company field operations of approximately 800 employees. \n

The Director, SHES works in conjunction with global SHES leadership, field locations and manufacturing sites (USN, Red Diamond, Satellite and Brownsville for Crisis Management coordination within their assigned geography. Demonstrates strong leadership skills, works well in a team environment, directly manages safety team at Corporate and field; with a strong dotted line to SHES manufacturing. Demonstrates excellent communication skills and strives to enrich the Company's safety culture, Mission, Vision and Values.\n

The Director, SHES reports directly to the Director of Corporate Operations and maintains proactive, frequent and open communication; this role has dotted line reporting to global SHES.\n

Essential Duties and Responsibilities\n

Safety and Compliance Management\n\nProactively plan, direct and implement the Company's safety management system to ensure a safe, environmentally responsible, healthy and accident-free work environment.\nCreate and communicate a clear roadmap of the safety management system and goals for U.S. and Canadian business. \nEstablish and monitor key performance metrics to measure performance and to evaluate SHES program effectiveness.\nSupports leaders with Federal, State and company compliance and leads improvement initiatives. \nSet and oversee the Field Safety Managers goals and objectives. \nAlong with the Field Safety Managers, provide recommendations and assistance to LLC and corporate management with respect to safety improvement plans, job site hazards, employee training, new\/safe equipment operation. \nEnsure compliance of company operations to all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, along with Company policies. \nWork directly with Global SHES Director to standardize SHES programs and key performance metrics. \nRemain current on industry safety regulations. Keep management advised of new or revised regulations and their projected impact.\nEnsure SHES regulatory reporting requirements and internal reporting needs are met. (MSHA, EPA Sara Title III, NR Can E2, OSHA 300, Global SHEs, etc.). \nOversee the development and implementation of Intelex, the Company's SHES software system. \nReview new pre-qualification documentation to ensure contractors have an acceptable safety record and communicate with Field Safety Managers, Risk Manager and Field Management of their acceptance or rejection. \nManage hazardous materials control program. Work with 3rd party services to address spills, decontamination procedures, and environmental studies. \nMonitor environmental compliance for facility wastewater, storm water management, spill prevention, control and countermeasure and other environmental related issues.\nDrive the definition and implementation of initiatives to minimize the environmental impact of AP operations, including but not limited to optimize energy and water consumption, minimize waste and emissions.\n\n

Security\n\nManage the development and implementation of our DOT security plan and ATF security policy, guidelines and procedures to ensure ongoing security of physical sites and assets. Physical protection includes key security, access and intrusion monitoring systems, internal security checks and independent security audits. \nResponsible for the oversight of Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Participates in vulnerability assessments, internal and external security inspections. \nOversee the incident response planning as well as the investigation of security breaches. \n\n

Leadership\n\nManage and develop the SHES\/ESG (Environmental Social Governance) team, ensuring all agreed upon business objectives are in line with customer and business expectations. \nLead the SHES\/ESG team to successfully achieve health, safety and environmental targets by building a sustainable, consistent and high-quality team. \nRepresentation in community, industry safety groups and programs.\nMaintain a work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to ensure positive relationships with customers, subcontractors, co-workers and management.\nFrequently communicate with company President, Director of Operations, Corporate\/Global SHES team and field\/manufacturing managers to keep them apprised of pertinent issues.\n\n

Audit and Investigations\n\nOversee the Field Safety Managers in ensuring the Company and its job sites remain hazard and accident free by conducting periodic safety inspections.\nProvide support to field staff in the event of an agency site inspection.\nPerform and oversee investigation of accidents, injuries and unsafe working conditions to include interfacing with workers compensation claims and communication with injured workers and the return-to-work strategies.\nCooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations. \nPrepare study and analysis of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies. Make recommendations to resolve any deficiencies.\nCreate monthly, annual and ad-hoc reports and respond to requests for safety statistics. \n\n

Training\n\nEvaluate current SHES training programs making revisions where necessary. \nDevelop, plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices and safe equipment operating techniques for job sites and office. \nDevelop and participate in the delivery of training to new location managers as well as refresher material to existing location managers. \nEnsure new employees are receiving safety instructions prior to beginning work. Work with field management to train to emphasize any specific site hazards and thoroughly explain all applicable precautions.\nEnsure Competent Person Fall Protection training is conducted and refreshed. \nAssist in the development of safety-related material for Company programs, including Employee Safety Meetings, blaster training, location manager training. \nProvide training and education to all levels of staff, as required, by Federal, state and provincial regulations.\nOther duties as assigned.\n\n

Education and Experience \n\nBachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety & Health, SHES Management, or a related field required, Master's degree a plus. \n10+ years of leadership\/managerial experience within the Environmental Health and Safety function in the aggregates, mining, or construction industries; minimum of 3 years at the corporate level\nProven leadership and teamwork skills with work collaboratively and to influence those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exists.\nExperience and ability to effectively lead a team remotely.\nDemonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.\n\n

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities\n\nHighly effective written and verbal communications skills that can effectively deliver message with people of various backgrounds, experience, and education levels. \nAdvanced interpersonal communications skills and cultural sensitivity\nDemonstrated highly effective platform presentation skills and training delivery skills.\nAbility to travel internationally.\nUnderstanding of environmental issues, particularly waste, hazardous waste, (U.S. Sara Title III, SPCC and SWPPP plans; Natural Resources Canada E2)\nAbility to oversee multiple projects and manage priorities simultaneously.\n\n

Work Environment \n\nAbility to travel 25% by air or car with consecutive overnight stays (with occasional short notice).\nAbility to work in an outdoor environment throughout the year in rough terrain, quarries, mines, construction jobs. \n\n
