Posting Details Position Information Job Title Director - Sports Performance Full Time/Part Time Full Time FLSA Exempt General Job Description This is a supervisory position responsible for directing the operation of the department’s strength and conditioning facilities, to include nutrition, dietetics, mental health, and physical rehabilitation of student-athletes. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Deputy Director of Athletics. Essential Job Functions 1. Oversees athletic nutritional program, including but not limited to a departmental fueling station, student-athlete educational programs, and pre/post-season training menus for student-athletes. 2. Serves as a liaison to the campus dining partner to create student-athlete menus. 3. Collaborates with the sports medicine unit on student-athlete rehabilitation programs. 4. Creates and collects data to reduce injury rates and improve the return to play rate. 5. Collaborates with counselors to create student-athlete mental health programs. 6. Creates collaborative relationships with academic units to provide hands-on transformative experiences for students studying sports performance. 7. Directs the operation of the department’s strength and conditioning facilities. 8. Oversees the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for all intercollegiate teams. 9. Develops and manages the annual budget for the sports performance unit. 10. Directs the selection, installation, and maintenance of training equipment. 11. Provides proper supervision and instruction to student-athletes to ensure safe use of equipment. 12. Directs the coordination of schedules for the use of the strength and conditioning facilities by all intercollegiate teams. 13. Directs all sports performance efforts for the football program and/or additional sport programs as necessary. 14. Hires, trains, and evaluates assigned staff, including undergraduate and graduate students as well as volunteers. Non-Essential Job Functions 1. Adheres to all applicable NCAA , conference, and university rules and regulations. 2. Attends university, conference, NCAA , and other organizational meetings as assigned. 3. Participates in professional development opportunities to represent the university as appropriate. 4. Participates on university committees as assigned. 5. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. 1. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. 8. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public. 9. Ability to train and supervise others. 10. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time. 11. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs. 12. Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for students. Physical Demands Required Education Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, health, exercise science, or a related field is required. Required Experience and Training Four years of related experience is required. Experience in intercollegiate athletics sports performance and strength and conditioning units is required. Experience in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating sports performance metrics, including but not limited to speed, strength, and conditioning is required. Supervisory experience is required. Strength and conditioning specialist ( CSCS ) certification as administered by the National Strength and Conditioning Association ( NSCA ) and/or strength and conditioning coach certified ( SCCC ) through the Collegiate Strength Coaches Association ( CSCA ) is required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. Special Conditions for Eligibility This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check. Min Pay Rate Mid Pay Rate Salary Information Commensurate with Experience Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this Posting Is Background Check Required? Yes Benefit and Retirement Eligibility This position is eligible for participation in the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ), subject to the position being full-time and at least 4 ½ months in length, or the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
