PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Director, US Government Affairs, will be responsible for managing a range of government relations initiatives to promote the business and policy objectives of Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) in each of CPKC’s network states, with a focus on the following: Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, New York, & Maine as well as a focus on the City of Kansas City, MO metro area. Under the supervision of the AVP, US Government Affairs, the successful candidate will work closely with the Government Affairs and Communications and Media Relations teams, and others across the company, to execute the initiatives of CPKC’s government affairs program.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Develop, maintain, and grow strong relationships with key elected officials, political staff, and government officials to tell the inspiring story of CPKC: how the company has become the first and only single-line transnational railway linking Canada, the United States and México, providing the safest, most efficient, and cost-effective freight transportation service in North America Develop and execute government relations and advocacy strategies Write strong, concise, and clear briefing notes Collaborating horizontally across the company, prepare written submissions and presentations to government and parliamentary committees on various policy matters affecting the rail transportation sector Deploy fact-based and data-driven arguments to educate key stakeholders so that CPKC is known as the credible industry leader on issues and public policies affecting the railway industry Attend and represent CPKC at government, political, and other external stakeholder meetings and events Engage as a strong team player and leader, both internally and externally Monitor, analyze, and respond to current and potential policy and legislative or regulatory actions or trends affecting the railway industry and CPKC Identify risks and opportunities Troubleshoot, address, and mitigate stakeholder issues Perform other duties, as assigned, consistent with organizations goals

Management Conductor Program:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
