The Department of Emergency Medicine, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is accepting applications for our faculty position Disaster Medicine Fellowship. Optimal candidates will have completed an emergency medicine residency and must be BC/BE in Emergency Medicine.
 
Overview
The Disaster Medicine Fellowship offered by the Department of Emergency Medicine at UT Health San Antonio will provide program participants with a well-rounded training program that covers the key competencies of Disaster Medicine, as outlined by SAEM.  The program will provide its fellows with training to treat patients in dire circumstances in limited-resource environments under austere conditions.
 
The goal of the Disaster Medicine fellowship is to develop fellow skills as academic physicians and enhance fellow's abilities to serve as providers and leaders who are operationally minded specifically for disaster response. The Disaster Medicine Fellowship curriculum will expose participants to numerous other specialty areas in pre-hospital medicine.  Program faculty include physicians from the department's EMS, tactical medicine, global health, wilderness medicine, and operational medicine sections. This program is a non-ACGME accredited fellowship. The Disaster Medicine Fellowship is based at UT Health San Antonio, but program participants will have opportunities that extend to urban, rural, regional, national, and international disaster response efforts. Organizations fellows can become involved with include STRAC, SAFD, EMTF 8, and Texas Task Force 1. Completion of a fellowship in Disaster Medicine will position graduates to work as experts within academic medicine as well as provide leadership and operational skills to disaster response teams.

Requirements for Consideration
1.         Eligible for Texas licensure
2.         Board certified / board eligible ABEM or AOBEM and / or
3.         Must have completed a U.S. ACGME-accredited Residency Program in Emergency Medicine

Structure
The fellowships begin July 1 and last one year. Dependent on fellowship program, fellows will divide their time between educational, clinical and field training and tenets of pre-hospital emergency care.
