Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of experience in disease investigation and prevention activities, investigatory work, social services, nursing, or as a medical laboratory technician or assistant; OR A bachelor's degree. Job Concepts Function of Work: To train in conducting disease prevention and intervention activities within one of the communicable disease programs. Level of Work: Entry. Job Distinctions: Differs from Disease Intervention Specialist 2 by the absence of independently conducting prevention and intervention activities for one of the communicable disease programs. Examples of Work Position assigned to an OPH Regional Office, under the supervision of a DIS Supervisor, and functions in the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Control Program to perform STD and HIV/AIDS field investigation, interviews, tracking, epidemiological casework, counseling, and referrals. Instructed and trained to carry out the activities of a communicable disease program under close and direct supervision. 30% Conduct investigative fieldwork by locating and identifying those persons who have contacted, or may be a suspect, to known cases of sexually transmitted diseases of HIV; referring them to proper medical sources, and linking them to care and referral services. Use proper laboratory procedures when doing rapid testing in an office or field setting. 30% Interview and counsel persons regarding the disease, its cause, the importance of control, prevention measures to be taken, and the treatment for infections. Elicit contacts and suspects from infected clients and follow as described above. Assist individuals newly diagnosed with HIV/AIDS with medical care and case management services. 20% Document investigative activities into the case management system including information obtained from field follow-up, case management interviews, and medical record review. 10% Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with all supervisors, senior level management staff, co-workers, medical personnel, and during interactions with other individuals while working as an employee of the Regional STD/HIV Program. 10% Maintain relationships with community medical providers, CBO agencies, federally qualified healthcare centers, and social support agencies with the purpose of supporting coordination for STD/HIV-related activities.
