Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six years of experience in disease investigation and prevention activities, investigatory work, social services, nursing, or as a medical laboratory technician or assistant; OR
A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in disease investigation and prevention activities; OR
An advanced degree in epidemiology, public health, in a biological science, or nursing plus two years of experience in disease investigation and prevention activities.

To supervise a regional disease intervention or prevention program having a staff of six or more Disease Intervention Specialists.
Level of Work:
Supervisor.
Supervision Received:
Broad direction from a Public Health Program Officer or Regional Administrator/Medical Director.
Supervision Exercised:
Direct-line over Disease Intervention Specialists.
Location of Work:
Department of Health and Hospitals; Office of Public Health.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Disease Intervention Specialist 3 by presence of direct-line supervisory responsibility.
Differs from Disease Intervention Specialist 4 by the presence of supervision of a regional disease intervention and prevention program with a staff of six or more Disease Intervention Specialists.
Differs from Public Health Program Officer by the absence of statewide program responsibility.
Examples of Work
Supervises and coordinates the collection, compilation, and interpretation of a variety of data pertaining to a program.
Conducts studies to ascertain needs for services, personnel and/or equipment; develops, plans, and determines priorities to satisfy needs in order to increase the effectiveness of disease prevention.
Recommends office guidelines and procedures; participates in budgetary preparation.
Works with officials, agencies, and concerned groups in developing and promoting an effective disease intervention and prevention program.
Prepares reports relative to a communicable disease program.
Assures that in-service training is provided on all phases of a communicable disease control program.
May appear before public groups to discuss phases of a communicable disease program and explains health policies and regulations to official bodies and civic groups.
