Southwest District Health (SWDH) is recruiting aDisease Intervention Specialist (Program Specialist)to join the dedicated group of public health professionals in thePublic Health Emergency Preparedness and Epidemiology Response (PHEPER) unit within the Division of Environmental and Community Health.
As aDisease Intervention Specialist (DIS)and public health employee, you will serve an active role in improving the health of your community. As part of a small, but mighty team, you will investigate diseases from the Idaho Reportable Disease List to comply with IDAPA 16.02.10 within the SWDH region. The position will also be responsible for the contact tracing, disease monitoring, and coordination of partner services to ensure medical treatment. In addition, this position will support and augment the work being done by the SWDH epidemiology team.

This is a limited-service position. Length of Limited-Service appointments are defined as appointments tied to funding for a specific program, grant or project that is not indefinite in nature.

Our generous benefits package boosts total compensation for full-time Program Specialist (DIS), transforming the base pay range from $25.79 - $30.34/hour to an estimated total compensation value, including benefits, of $37.79 - $43.35/hour, showcasing our investment in your well-being and professional growth.
Typical Duties:
Candidates must be able to complete the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and meet all the mandatory qualifications of the position.
+ Interview cases, contacts, and community members about behaviors contributing to disease transmission.
+ Track exposed individuals, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other federal and state guidelines.
+ Facilitate testing and treatment for close contacts with medical providers.
+ Provide education to patients and communities to prevent disease transmission.
+ Assist epidemiologists with outbreak investigations, electronic case reviews, and data analysis.
+ Enter case information into the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System and evaluate surveillance systems.
+ Create and distribute educational and informational materials for disease intervention.
+ Generate situational awareness reports during outbreaks and assist with Health Alert Network messages.
+ Keep up to date with local, national, and international disease trends and outbreaks.
Minimum Qualifications:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications listed below to qualify for this position. Minimum Qualifications (MQ):

- Management practices
- Program or project planning and implementation
“Some knowledge” typically means applicants should have knowledge similar to that of an apprentice or beginner, which can be gained through either 2-4 relevant college courses, 6 months to 2 years of entry-level related work experience, or a combination of coursework and experience demonstrating the necessary knowledge.
+ Approximately 6 months of related work experience developing and evaluating policies and procedures.
MQ Specialty :
+ Valid Driver’s License
+ Good knowledge of:
- State and federal laws and regulations regarding the confidentiality and safeguarding of citizen and governmental information
- MS Office, marketing computer software and online applications (CRM tools, Online analytics, Google Analytics, etc.)
“Good knowledge” typically means applicants should possess journeyman level expertise, which can be gained through either a closely related bachelor's degree, 2-4 upper division college courses related to the subject and 2-4 years of mid-level work experience closely related to the subject, or a combination of coursework and experience that represents the knowledge level above.
+ Approximately 1-2 years of related work experience in the following areas:
- Experience utilizing problem solving strategies as a responsibility of the job
- Compiling and analyzing information and/or data and writing reports and/or correspondence in a work setting
- Providing customer service
- Technical writing and communication strategies
- Reviewing documents for accuracy, completeness and compliance
- Developing complex spreadsheets and performing mathematical calculations
- Using database management systems for tracking and reporting
- Presenting information, both verbally and in writing, to both technically and non-technically oriented audiences
- Assessing training needs and evaluating courses and instructors to meet those needs.
