Disney Theatrical Group is currently seeking a passionate self-starter for a summer internship in the Creative Development department. The intern will gain a comprehensive understanding of how Disney Theatrical Group develops a new show–from the kernel of the idea, assembling a creative team, shaping the script and score, guiding the show through its pilot production and ultimately supporting its worldwide rollout and commercial licensing. Interns will gain first-hand knowledge of how our productions fit into the theatrical landscape as a whole and be exposed to both the creative and business aspects of producing.
 

This internship is a full-time commitment in the NYC, New York area from  May 27, 2025 - August 8, 2025. A cover letter is required for the Disney Theatrical Group Creative Development Intern, Summer 2025 position.

What You Will Do:

Supporting the Creative Development department’s active slate of shows, including projects for Broadway, regional and professional and amateur licensing.  Intern will perform administrative tasks for in-house creative work sessions and table reads, contribute to research and dramaturgical projects, and participate in department updates.

Assisting with readings, labs, and workshops of new musicals in a Production Assistant capacity, including but not limited to printing scripts/scores, setting up and breaking down rehearsal rooms, running errands, etc.

Contributing to the writing, editing, and proofing process for all published materials such as JR & KIDS Showkits, as well as production of accompanying media assets such as guide vocal recordings and choreography videos.

Scouting new works locally and writing coverage of new musicals and plays, as well as tracking new works across NYC, the country and internationally.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

A passion for new theatrical works, especially musicals

Excellent writing and proofreading skills

Strong organizational skills and astute attention to detail

Friendly and collaborative attitude, with a commitment to excellence

A willingness to cover readings and shows outside of office hours (up to 2 per week)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Ability to read music

Experience directing or producing at least one production (at any level: school, community, etc.)

Knowledge of the names and credits of established theater makers

Education:

Pursuing an undergraduate degree in theater, or related field, with an interest towards a career in producing, directing, creative development, or arts administration.

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information:

Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship. Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.

Be at least 18 years of age

Possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information:

Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship

Fully available from Monday through Friday, 9am - 6pm EST for the duration of the internship, 40 hours each week

Able to provide own housing for the duration internship program in the New York City, New York area

Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work

The pay rate for this role in New York is $22 per hour.
